I bought this to replace my Petzl Zipka, which is still working after a number of years. The Princeton Tec Bye is also very light and the headband is more comfortable than the Zipka. However, there is still some battery drain when the unit is turned off (about half a milliamp - I measured) so the battery eventually goes dead. There is a switch provided to disconnect the battery, but it will not stay in the "off" position reliably - the slightest bump turns it back on.
This light started out OK, but after a few uses, the switch has failed. The light now stays only in one mode--a flickering on. Must remove batteries to turn off. After researching, I discovered other reviews that note this switch failure. Took light apart and still can't fix the switch. Trash.
I used this headlamp's Red light mode for astronomy. The on/off/mode switch failed the first night. Just got home so haven't changed battery to see if that is the problem. If so it is consistent with a couple other reviews of newer Princeton Tec headlamps with very short battery life. Either way cannot be recommended. Hope its an anecdotal finding as my older Princeton lights are great.
Saw it on sale and bought on a whim to replace my dying old headlamp. I chose this over the more popular BD due to the red light, a must if you camp in buggy areas and hate head nets like I do. 2 years so far it's been reliable.
I had my friend pay for this light, because I thought he would need one. Lucky for me, he left it in my backpack and I'm going to give it to him as a Christmas present!
