Appalling quality

The only reason I'm giving these 2 stars instead of 1 is that I love the fit of the shoes and how they climb in cracks. However, the quality of the shoe is appallingly bad. Within 2 days and 10 pitches, the laces burst open and the tabs that hold the laces to the shoe started pulling out. Within another 10 pitches or so, I expect the tabs to fully tear out, and the shoes to be unlaceable. I've heard anecdotally that this has happened to other people who have the newer generation of this shoe. BD may have switched materials. Either way, I can't recommend purchasing these if they're going to immediately fall apart.

Performs with the best!

I’ve had these shoes now for almost two months and have been able to climb both inside and outside with them! Fit and comfort of these shoes is amazing. Performance is just as good. Fits and performs a lot like the tc pro which was my last favorite shoes. The shoe heel hooks better than any shoe I’ve tried before. Wasn’t able to try them on before purchase so I went with the advice and ordered my normal shoe size as it said on the website. Could have probably used a half size smaller but pretty acute nonetheless! Glad to see BD stepping into the shoe market! Can’t wait to see what’s next!

expected too much

Leather, knit tongue and laces performed as indicated but the rest fell short as advertised. 1. FIT- the toe end didn’t stretch out after months of using it. In comparison to a more aggressive shoe (evolv shaman) that i’m currently using. 2. Wear and tear-after 6 months of using it the toe rand got exposed which i find weird because 6b is the hardest route i can do. 3. RESOLE-the exact thickness (4.3mm) and rubber is not abailable in the market so having the close to original feel is impossible

Hello, Thank you for your review on the Aspect shoes. We always appreciate the feedback. While we use a leather insole on the Aspect, I have noticed it doesn't stretch as much as other full leather shoes available on the market. In any case, it’s worth noting that the Aspect will stretch the most of the current Black Diamond shoes. I felt like mine stretched out a little over a quarter size after several uses personally. Most of the stretch I noticed happened in the heel and mid sole. Our apologies that the shoes didn't meet your expectations. If you'd like to send us an email at BDMO@bdel.com we could see if there is anything we could offer in lieu of this experience.

Solid non-aggressive choice

Purchased these for trad and multipitch at my street shoe size and am happy so far with the result. Pros: Super comfortable materials, and the knit tongue adds much needed breathability for longer days. With the stiffer sole, side rubber pieces, and added padding, this is a very supportive shoe. Fantastic for crack climbing, especially with the covered laces at the front. Cons: Slightly less sensitivity than other shoes and the heel cup has a little bit of extra room at the sides. I was still able to feel holds through the shoe and heel hook without a problem but be aware this isn't a bouldering shoe. Sizing: If you want a comfortable all-day shoe, go with your street size. If you want this to be a more technical fit, size down a half size. Conclusion: Fantastic trad shoe, excels in cracks, not for overhangs or bouldering.

My apprehension was proven wrong

An REI employee recommended these shoes once we both came to the conclusion that TC Pros just wouldn't fit my foot shape. I was nervous to try these because they're so new, but as always BD makes solid products. Overall, a solid shoe that responds well to different types of climbing. They took a few routes to get sticky. So I'd bring them to the gym for a few sessions before going outside. Still isn't the stickiest rubber out there, needs more active foot pressure to get a good hold on the wall. Only reason I wouldn't give them 5 stars. Sizing: I usually am a size 40.5-41 and I wear a 42. I would not want to go smaller. I highly recommend trying these on in store as the sizing is different from other climbing shoes out there.

Alaskan aspect

I've worn the mythos for a couple years so I was worried about getting a new shoe that could be as comfortable. The aspects felt good straight out of the box and hold their own on the rock or in a gym. Super stoked to see BD making shoes and the new store in Alaska

Great Shoes

I bought these a few months ago on a punt when my Katanas gave up. The first week with them I thought I made the wrong choice, the feel and fit were not nice! By the end of the week I was ready to give them up. I gave them one more chance and I am glad I did. They will mould nicely to the shape of your foot. I have used them in the Bavarian Alps, UK south coast Sea cliffs, North Wales and various climbing gyms so far. Love them! Took the advice on previous reviews and bought street shoe size, for trad work they fit me perfectly. The little features like the covered laces certainly give you the confidence when jamming and footwork in cracks.

Not my favorite

I bought these in an attempt to diversify from the shoe I love but wear out quickly - the la sportiva finale. I knew these would take time to wear in the rubber based off of reviews but I've spent a good 20+ hours climbing in these and they still don't feel like they stick. They are also super stiff, which will be nice for crack climbing but not so great for super technical foot movements. I'm hoping they will wear in more but right now I'm debating spending more money on another pair of la sportivas. On the bright side? They're actually pretty comfortable while belaying and breathe nicely. Plus they fit my feet that are narrow with with a forward arch.

Good Fit for Narrow Width Foot

Ordered street shoe size 11.5 standard based on other reviews. I wear a 11.5 narrow in New Balance 1080's for reference. Disclaimer: I've only used these in the gym. Purchased these as my first climbing shoe; have been happy with them. Not having the opportunity to test fit in person, I ordered the 11 and 11.5. There's no way I could have gotten my feet into the 11's without major pain, so 11.5 was the one I kept and returned the 11's. I also specifically chose a laced shoe due to fit concerns, but I see that more as personal preference rather than a functional advantage/disadvantage. After 3-5 days/wk of bouldering and top-roping for the past two months they've stretched to be comfortable enough to wear for full sessions without having to temporarily slip them off. They're not super-aggressive but I have no problem with grip while smearing or getting my toes on chips/marginally useful holds. I haven't noticed any excessive wear or eyelets coming out as others have reported, but I use them for the gym, and their man-made pitches and cracks aren't going to be as rough as what you'd find outside, so YMMV. Overall, I'm happy with them and if you have a narrow, lower-volume foot and aren't looking for a super-agressive shoe, you should consider these.
