Light and Comfortable

Great harness for what it's designed for; light alpine and ice climbing. The gear loops are small so won't be good if you're taking up a big trad rack. 4 ice clipper loops are strong and we'll positioned (BD clippers fit a lot better than Petzl clippers).  Sizing: I have a 34 waist and usually wear a Medium harness in other brands. In this harness I had to get a Large, so keep that in mind  Overall I really like this harness! Very light, comfortable, and perfect for what it's made for. The 5th gear/haul loop is large and perfect for extra gloves, belay devises, V-thread cord, and anything you want!

Great harness

My first harness was a good choice! I bought this harness whilst getting into climbing and it has filled it shoes no matter what I have been sending. The four ice clipper slots are really nice, and so is the fifth loop. I did not mind it but the harness is on the paired down side, i'd try it on (sit in it!) to see if the fit is right for you. The loop on the back which the leg loop elastics are connected to is wearing out much faster than expected. If you wanted a harness for ice, alpine, trad, or multi pitch rock, i'd consider the Technician. It easily competes with harnesses of similar function/weight.

Awesome harness!

I've used this harness about a dozen times now, and I absolutely love it. The Technician harness is perfect - Very light, supremely comfortable, just the right amount of padding in the right places. The only possible problem with it might be that the gear loops are smaller than normal, but I haven't taken it up a wall yet to be sure (the big loop on the back probably makes up for the smaller side loops). For reference: The Technician is as light as, and more comfortable than the Aquila (without the slipping leg loop buckles), *much* more comfortable than the AR-395a, and much lighter and much more comfortable than the Corax. BD really nailed this one.

Good all around harness

So far I have enjoyed the Technician and found it to be light and packable with good comfort. It handles a mid size rack of gear and runners comfortably on the gear loops. The waist belt webbing is a somewhat stiff when it comes time to loosen the harness and I have to feed the webbing through the buckle to make it move. The only other odd thing that has happened was the sewn stop flap on the leg loops has managed to poke it's way through stopper wires racked on the front gear loops. Kind of odd but perhaps I can do a better job of racking or getting the leg loop tails tucked away. A great harness for the price I believe.

Excellent for multiple disciplines

I was hesitant to buy the technician based on previous reviews about the gear loops and buckle. I’m glad I didn’t listen though and am very happy with this harness! The gear loops are short in height but provide ample space for a double rack plus draws for big days out. The buckle does stay nice and tight and doesn’t loosen easily, but I’m not sure that should ever be a gripe about a harness. The other slight draw back is the uncoated rear loop can be tough to discern if I’ve clipped to it or not when racking gear. It may have been better to do the plastic cover like the rest of the loops but I appreciate that it does not add bulk in my pack! Overall, this thing rocks! If your climbing season never ends (trad, ice, sport, alpine) then you will be very happy with the technician!

Pictures don't align with product

I mostly trad climb and multi-pitch so I was looking for a replacement for my Solution Guide since having 5 gear loops is a must for me. This looked like the most comparable BD replacement since the solution guide is no longer made. Looking at the pictures, it seemed like the harness had a full sized 5th gear loop so I pulled the trigger. Immediately out of the box, the 5th gear loop is tiny, like maybe an 1.5 inches, honestly no bigger than just a small haul loop. Initiated a return once I saw this. Again what is shown in the pictures as a full sized 5th gear loop is actually just kind of a tiny pointless thing.

It's fine, man.

I bought this to replace an Aspect harness, as it seemed the most comparable in the line up. It's not nearly as bad as some of the reviews I read suggested. In comparison with the Aspect, the waist adjustment is negligibly different. The leg loop and waist padding is a bit less comfortable, but that may break-in over time. The single anchor point in the back for the leg loop elastics is a bit annoying as I find myself looking like an idiot solving some sort of worm-hole knot theory problem at the crag to get the leg loops oriented correctly more often than before. The gear loop sizes seem fine to me too, but I don't plan on racking a double set of cams on it any time soon.

Great Harness!

Solid in all respects- used for both a sport and a trad 8 pitch. Size up if you are on the high end of the recommended sizing range. My small fits but unfoetunately the left side loops are pretty far around so using the second loop is challenging to use. I do like the 5th loop at the back for chalk, rescue gear, bail maillon, etc. Overall: light yet comfortable and versatile. It should be fine to use indoors on the occasion I do!

Great specialized harness

I bought this harness for ice climbing but will likely be using it on alpine climbs and for low altitude mountaineering due to its light weight and extra padding over my coulior harness. I agree the gear loops could be bigger, but I have yet to use the huge rear loop, so I think the capacity for longer climbs is there. Great location for ice clippers. I wish the leg loops adjusted a bit tighter, but then again, my thigh diameter is the envy of most women. Also wish the haul loop was rated for a belay anchor as I like clipping in to the rear rather than to the front tie ins.

Room for improvement

The harness gets the job done but has a bit of room for improvement. My biggest concern is that the gear loops are quite small. For a standard day of ice climbing with screws, quickdraws, anchor material and maybe a very very light rock rack the harness does fine. Any more than that and the gear loops would become quite crowded. There is quite a bit of space between the rear 2 gear loops and the 5th loop in the back. It's a shame that the front gear loops weren't made larger (like the chaos harness) to fill that extra space and be able to accommodate a larger rock rack.
