Great traction and look
Upgraded from the tube style ones from Costco. These have MUCH better traction!! While they are a bit heavier and louder in the snow, you dont slide one bit which is what ultimately matters. The best thing by far is how easy they are to get on and off. Once you have the back strap set you dont ever have to undo it and just slide your foot in and adjust the toe strap. If the straps seem short dont be detoured. They pull out and you can flip them over for a lot more added length. I also like that the color of these is more teal vs the awful pastel colors they make most womens items in!!
Unsure how I feel about them
I'm not sure about these. I've never owned other snowshoes, so can't compare. My biggest issue is that the strap over the top of my boot unclips while I'm using them sometimes and the snowshoe falls off. The snow gets packed into the clip and strap, making it hard to retighten the strap. On some of my boots, the straps barely worked at all as there wasn't enough length to them to tighten them sufficiently. These snowshoes are also quite long. I do like that they've held up so far, seem fairly good at their purpose of walking on snow, have good traction features for steep places, and seem relatively narrow.
Inferior to both the Evo and Lightning Ascents
I borrowed/rented the Evo model several times and enjoyed before deciding to purchase my own pair. Since I was willing to pay more for my snowshoes I decided to upgrade to the Revo Explore, largely for the better binding. While the binding was easier to fasten, I found it much more difficult to find the right foot placement, felt like my foot was off center and generally struggled with lateral balance while using these snowshoes. I also did not find the traction to be significantly better than the Evo’s. A friend who has the Lightning Ascents let me borrow theirs mid hike and I liked them immediately. Ultimately I will trade in the Revo Explore’s for Lightning Ascents, but if the Ascents are out of your budget I would recommend the Evo’s over this model.
These snowshoes are great!
I have hiked from the bottom to the top of the Benny Up trail on the Big Mountain in Whitefish, Montana five times this January. 3 miles and 2200 vertical each time. The lifts on these snowshoes are game changers.
Much better traction!
I exchanged my Atlas snow shoes for the MSR Revo Explore snow shoes. While I did like my Atlas snow shoes, this pair does not have the side walls which provides better traction especially when traversing across a slope. I highly recommend any variety of the MSR snow shoes if you plan to higher level climbs. If not, Atlas snow shoes work great for easy-moderate, more flat trails. One quick tip with the MSR Revo Explore: Both of the straps are adjustable from S/P to M/M. After a couple trips, my foot slip out of the snow shoe while descending a trail due to the front strap being too short. A quick at-home strap adjustment with a screw driver did the trick! Strap adjustments are quick and easy to don and doff, even while wearing gloves - another plus!
Perfect for Women
Women's version makes a big difference. Last season I purchased a "unisex" snowshoe for my wife. We used them 5 times and they hurt her hip joints. So this season I purchased these Women's Revo Explore snowshoes. The subtle changes in design to better fit a woman's anatomy works. We have used them on more than 20 treks and she has had no hip pain at all. Otherwise, we live in the mountains of Utah, and do most of our snowshoeing between 5K and 10K feet in elevation. We use the same trails we hike and mountain bike in the summer, which are steep and off-camber. The traction of these snowshoes on ice is absolute and they are proving to be quite durable. The Explore bindings are easy to get in and out of and provide excellent retention and stability for what we are doing.
Small straps for small feet
I am a size 9 male, and I used mid sized leather winter hiking boots with a medium sized pair of these snow shoes. The straps on the snow shoes are of excellent quality, but the length of the straps that are on these snow shoes are not long enough to wrap around a boot like the one I described. That being said, these are for women's sizes, but the staff at the store recommended it for it's sleekness and ease of use. I thought it was going to work out for me, but I think these really are for smaller feet or perhaps a different style of boot or shoe. Anyways, good luck!
Great snowshoes!Straps long enough for my big feet
I picked up a pair of these at an REI garage sale for a significant discount, and I'm so glad I did! I'm a beginner at snowshoeing but so far these suit my needs and more. At first, like other reviewers, I had a problem with the straps not being long enough to fit my boots, but after some playing around I realized it was because the macro straps were on their smallest size. After figuring out how to adjust those I had no problem getting the straps to accommodate my boots!
Not good in deep soft snow!
Just did a 3 mile hike on the old Commonwealth in the shoes in 1 to 2' of soft snow. These do not do well they were constantly having my ankles turned in not able to balance the weight flat on the platform and made my trip extremely difficult due to the decline and the ascent and the inability of these shoes to maintain stability. There is only one strap holding this shoe in place and my boot actually ended up falling underneath the shoe itself during this hike. People i went with said the shoe is too long as well as unstable. Im returning hoping to get a shoe that will let me enjoy this sport instead if hate it.
straps way too short
The straps are way too short. They could have been easily 2-3cm longer. I wear a size 8 in hiking boots and bought the 22in snowshoe size ideal for my weight. I could barely fit my hiking boots with my foot placed in a very forward position and using the final part of the strap. I will not be able to use these snowshoes with mountaineering boots which is why I will return them. For the price I would expect the bindings to not have such an avoidable issue. Too bad, they are very light, with a good grip and easy to carry attached to my backpack.
