Go with Patagonia if you care about CustomerExp
If you care about good customer service and a lifetime guarantee, go with Patagonia Last December, I was overdue for a new set of outwear for PacNW skiing. I spent a lot of time considering Arc’Teryx vs. Patagonia. After thorough research, I decided to pay a couple hundred $$ more (altogether) on Stinger Bibs, a Rush LT Jacket, and a Proton LT Hoodie. For the 30-40 days I’ve worn the jacket up until this past weekend up at Whistler, I thought I made the right choice by spending the extra $$. However, I was getting ready for my morning on the mountain when the bottom zipper bracket and slider ripped off my Rush LT Jacket entirely. Arc’Teryx has a retail location in the Whistler Village so I stopped by to resolve the issue (thinking that it would be a quick and painless process). However, instead of replacing my jacket, Arc’Teryx forced me to pay a $350 deposit to take out a loaner jacket, which has a max loan period of 4 days. In the meantime, Arc’Teryx told me it would take 6 Weeks (?!) to replace or repair my Rush LT jacket – Yes, that’s right: 6 Weeks during the peak of ski season, which is the only time of year I wear my Rush LT jacket. I vocalized my concerns to the Arc’Teryx staff in-store who instructed me to send my jacket back their Vancouver facility and then follow-up with their customer service team over the phone. I complied, and after speaking with a rep named Alex over the phone yesterday, I was told “too bad, you need to wait 6 weeks” for your jacket. On the other hand, I, and several of my family members have owned various Patagonia shells pants, swimsuits etc. Every time there has been a defect with one of their items, Patagonia has granted us a no hassle product swap in-store – no questions asked. This customer experience with Arc’Teryx, especially as a high-end brand, is completely below the standard of those, like Patagonia, who sell their products at a slightly lower price point with no significantly noticeable drop in performance. Furthermore, it was shocking to hear Alex from Arc’Teryx just say “OK” after I told him at the end of the call that the only thing I could do now was make my voice be heard on social media. So here I am - I’m now a very disappointed (and wet) Arc’Teryx customer without a ski jacket and it’s a shame – As I thought their products and so called “customer service” were worth the extra money.
Durability concerns
Great in the elements but worried about the durability of it. The powder skirt has already ripped, the elastic on the hood has broke and I already got a tear at the bottom of the jacket. A lot of issues for 20 days in.
Great for skiing and climbing
I got a large that fits perfect. I’m 6’4”, 195lbs.
