May fit a petite woman
I’ve been trying to find a nice fitting hiking pants for a long time. No luck whatsoever! I’m 5’1, around 99 lbs, athletic build, not a lot of weight on the bottom. Smallest adult size in most of the brands is waaaaay too big. These pants look nice and the fabric seems to be very breathable for the summer. I tried these in girls size M and L. Medium was perfect length but too tight. May work for a really skinny petite woman. Large was way too large, even with adjusted waist. I’d say I need to be 10 pounds heavier and an inch or two taller for L to work. Disappointing. Can anyone recommend any brands for small skinny women like me?

Shorts too long for girls
Pros: 1) I love that these are lightweight, as my kids use these almost exclusively in the summer, often to keep bugs away or for walking through brush, etc. while hiking. 2) I like the straight, slim-ish fit of the legs, unlike so many other brands that are a very loose fit. 3) I also love the number of pockets. Cons: 1) The biggest con is that the shorts are way too long for many girl's tastes. Today's styles are short, and these go almost to my daughter's knees. They just look dorky, something no 11 year old wants. (I found another brand that has a 4" inseam on their girl's convertible pants.) I know less length might reduce the number or size of pockets possible, but it seems like one could design some with a shorter inseam for the shorts that still has adequate pockets. 2) I also wish the side zips went all the way up so they could be taken off without having to put an often dirty/wet hiking boot through to remove. 3) REI needs to make these in more sizes. The difference between the S and M is ridiculous.

Better than ever!

These pants are amazing! The weight is perfect for the summer. Light and easy to pack or dry. They have a comfortable fit but are not too baggy and have style! This is a high quality pant which usually does not come in children's clothes. It is made with an adjustable waist but not the usual elastic gathered waist. The side zippers are amazing...Super long so no problem taking the zip-off bottoms off when you have your boots on. I am 5'2" and about 100 lbs. The pants fit better than the 0 Petite in the women's. I just adjusted the waist a little smaller. These pants are the same quality as a $80 pair of pants. Great job REI designers.

Light weight pants works for petite person

I am 5'2", 110 lbs, w24, h38 with short legs having very hard time finding a right fit pants. I have similar design REI pants for woman but that pair is heavier in material and more expensive. This was the first time to try girl's pants, so I first ordered XL (based on my hips) which was huge, then I ordered L which was still long, so I ordered M which was too small and I could not pull up. So I decided to keep L and moved waist button 4 - 5 positions and hemmed the bottom. L size inseam is 29". REI's petite pants are 31" long which seem too long as petite. I hope they can make shorter version.

Hiking's a breeze in these pants

Pros:These pants are super light-weight and the fit is comfortable. There are lots of pockets. The convertible zippers are color coded so they are a cinch to detach and reattach; they don't add a lot of bulk to the pants so that the pants are comfortable to wear. Cons: the back pockets are too small (short). I didn't like the snap closure on the hems or the way in which the hems were constructed. It's a really bad design idea. I had to shorten the pants anyway and removed the whole confabulation in the process - they looked and felt much better that way.

Good for thin boys too

My son accidentally tried these on at the store, so I ran and got him the boys version to try on. I was surprised that the girls’ pants fit him so much better. The boys pants are really wide at the bottom and baggy throughout the leg. Other than that, I couldn’t find a difference in the pants. So we went with the girls’ pants and are very happy with them. My son is almost 5 and thin - 44” tall and 40 lbs. The XXS fits him well.

Great pants for petite woman

For reference I weigh 84 lbs, waist 24 inches and am 5 feet tall. The size medium 10-12 fits me perfectly, but I basically have no rear to speak of so that helps. Next time I will try the size large just for a bit more room. They do have the waist adjusters inside.

Made for Hiking

I am 4'9" 100lbs. I have worn these pants on multiple hikes. I have been caught in the rain and they stayed dry. I have been caught in heavy wind and I stayed warmed. The bottom of the pants overlap my boots perfectly. I am planning on buying a larger size to fit a base layer underneath for Autumn and winter hiking.

Perfect for petite adults!

REI adult sizes run way too big for me (female, 5’2”, 90+ lbs) but a L girls’ size was perfect in length and width provided I use the internal adjustable belt thing. I did have to adjust the waist to the smallest size which I preferred to downsizing bc M was too short in the legs. These pants are lightweight and very comfortable. I went hiking in the snow, and with a base bottom layer, I stayed warm and dry.

Great Fit for Slim Boys

I purchased this version for my skinny boys and they were perfect. The boy’s version was really baggy in the legs, while these are still a relaxed fit that they weren’t swimming in. The only thing that seems different about these pants than the boys version is that these are slimmer.

Not just for kids! Bought a second pair!

Love these pants- they fit me (5'6", 130lbs, adult woman) and I love that they have the adjustable waist band. I also like that the leg zippers are color coded so it's easy to figure out which leg is which! Easy to remove lower portions with boots on.
