I never write product reviews, but I feel so strongly about this jacket that I am compelled to chime in. I am a man, I scored the men's Beta LF for cheap at the PDX store's garage sale, and then I bought my GF the women's version at full price because I love mine so much. They are the same product for all intents and purposes. The two of us spend 8+hours / day outside every day of the year and have couple jackets for different conditions. This one is the definitely most useful. After buying this jacket and experiencing the design quality I went online and picked up 6 or 7 more Arcteryx products. PROS: This is the best shell for those days with unpredictable sun breaks/heavy showers that we get here in the PNW. Any warm and wet environment, this is the go-to jacket. It packs up so tight that I can cram it in any nook or cranny, ready to deploy at a moment's notice. This jacket WILL KEEP YOU DRY. I promise you that. I've had other GORE-TEX shells but this stuff seems to bead up droplets better than any other I've had. It takes about 20 minutes of constant rain before the surface even begins to get wet. Just wash it often with the Nikwax detergent and treatment spray for that untouchable, dry-as-a-whistle, smoove-as-buttah, raindrops-swervin'-round-your-silhouette, out-all-day-in-the-rain goodness. The storm hood is awesome, it grips your head allowing for good peripheral vision and neck mobility; it accommodates a thick hat and headphones. The zippers easy to use with one hand and they are 100% sealed when zipped up. I spilled a flask of cocoa in my pocket on a backpacking trip, and didn't even notice for the longest time. I can confidently put my phone or important papers in the pockets. Like all rain jackets, the bungee cord drawstrings are crucial to the shape and function, and usually a serious weak point. These cords are great quality and designed to last under constant tension. In fact, the build quality of the whole garment is impeccable. There really are no obvious design flaws, and I'm very critical of expensive stuff. CONS: Not much to say, here. The pockets are in an awkward spot, but they are designed to be accessible with a backpack or climbing harness on. The only issue is when you bend over to pick up something, the contents will dump out on the ground. Keep em zipped up. I wish there was at least one interior pocket, but again it was designed to be as light as possible. Whatever. Worth every penny. Don't mess around with anything else.
I've had a pink beta lt before but lost it several years ago. So glad this delightful color is back! Good job, Arc'teryx! As to the fitting, it still fits true to the size, but I choose one size up since the arm-pit for the beta lt is narrower than the beta AR. Layering is more comfortable with one size up.
The cut has a subtle intake at the waist that gives it a more fitted appearance. I purchased the medium and am able to easily put a fleece or sweatshirt under it. The fabric is a great weight. It will be great for travel as well as hiking in the rain. The hood is a good size and has the ability to be snugged down as needed. I really liked this color.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this jacket a few months ago and couldn’t be more pleased. I love the fit, it’s super light, and the color is gorgeous (I got the purple one). It’s been awesome in the summer rain and I plan to use it as a light shell for skinning as the snow will be here in the high country before we know it. Plan to use this shell for years to come.
I have been begging you for three years to make this in a burnt orange color. I keep waiting and waiting. Now you have the perfect color but not in the beta lt. I am so bummed. I want this in FIKA! PLEASE!!!!
I was looking for a jacket and I'm very glad I bought this specific one. It's great quality and has held up great in many different conditions.
