I think the Micro Crew is the best sock there is. I'm finding that there is some inconsistency between micro crew socks - these colorful ones are really fun but thinner than the classic micro crews (in olive, green and black, etc.). The colors are also not quite as vibrant as in the photo and I ended up not liking them. I'm not saying this would be a bad sock if you've never had a darn tough sock - but I would not buy these over the classic color micro crews as they're not as cushy or quality feeling. The top fabric feels more like ultra thin smartwool socks or dress socks. Notably, I weighed them and these were 28.8 g and the classic micro crews were 37.6 g - a huge difference.
Yes, these are lighter and have less cushion than other Darn Tough micro crews. That’s why they are called LIGHTWEIGHT! For those of us that don’t care for the bulky, thick cushioning of the standard micro crew hiker, this is MUCH more comfortable. This seems like the perfect blend of merino wool and nylon. I bought one pair just to use up a gift card; then, after wearing them on a 16 mile day hike, I immediately ordered 2 more pairs!
Great socks, cover my feet up so they don’t touch the shoes! now I have to figure out how to keep my wife from stealing them
I purchased two pairs of Darn Tough socks based on the recommendation of an REI employee who fit me for new hiking boots. I was very skeptical pay this much for socks, but I did. It was a pleasure hiking in the Black Hills with socks that were comfortable and stayed put in the boots. They didn’t bunch move around or cause pressure points as other brands have. Definitely worth paying a premium price for a product that works.
I've been steadily replacing all my socks with Darn Tough. At first it was for the warranty, but I haven't worn any of them out yet, so I guess that's a testament to why they can afford the warranty in the first place. They stay put, are comfortable, and come in a great variety of weight and length. These particular ones are my "fall rainy chelsea boot in the Pacific Northwest" weight/length, if that's useful to anybody.
I am no hiking expert, but have had Type 1 Diabetes since I was 5 years old so I have always been really careful with my feet. I've never had an issue again when hiking with these. Even doing 15 mile hikes in 90+ degree weather my feet feel dry and soft after finishing and taking off my socks. I will always love this brand
Buyers beware: Even with careful washing, the ribbing of the XLs shrinks to baby size in six months (hence the micro in the name, I suppose). The person in the photos must have tiny calves and ankles. And since they're too short to be compression socks, all that can be done is to cut off the tops and make footsies.
As the title says, these socks are the best hiking socks I own. It's like they swaddle my feet as I hike. I was on the fence for a long time because who wants to pay $25 for socks but I'm glad I did. Between the new inserts I bought and these socks it's made a big difference in my comfort level as I hike.
I’m giving these as a gift in a holiday sock exchange because my family has had such a consistently positive experience with them. They are comfortable, easy to wash / care for, and they really do stand up to a lot of use. We love them for all different purposes.
