Not an 18oz bottle
I picked up this item at REI yesterday because I had dividend burning a hole in my pocket. At $50 it's a bit expensive for sure, but when you've got money to burn... Anyway, the packaging says it's an 18oz bottle, but it looked smaller than that to me. When I got home, filled it with water then dumped it into a measuring cup - just shy of 12oz. I'll still keep it because it's nice and comfortable in my hand and I like that I don't have to keep a full grip on it while running because of the wrist strap.
Under delivers ...
Returned. Chief complaint: the compression from the nylon sleeve prevents putting more than 10oz in the bottle unless you completely disassemble it, fill, and put it back together. Extremely wonky. Other design issues: wrist strap too complex - difficult to switch hands, hard to get a good seal, hard to grip. Sure, they eliminated the sloshing noise of rigid bottles ... and replaced it with squishiness. It's like running with a water balloon. Replaced it with the excellent amphipod Ergo-Lite Ultra.
The best soft flask I've owned
First, I don't know why people are commenting on how difficult it is to remove and fill. You aren't supposed to do that. You fill it while it's in the sleeve, and it will hold 16-18 oz of liquid depending on how you grip it. I am including a photo for demonstration of how much I filled it up in the sleeve and then back into a measuring cup. Second, I have owned two salomon hydro handsets and also carried the salomon soft flask on its own. This is now my new favorite. The salomon got floppy like a water balloon as it deflates. The spine in this prevents that, but like all other soft flasks, when it's empty you can still just stash it in your pocket. It's the best of both worlds. My only concern is that the elastic is likely to fatigue over time, which would be a .5 star demerit. Otherwise this thing is perfect.
Best Handheld I Have Ever Used
While doing research on this ExoDraw I was nervous reading about the leaking cap and difficulty getting into the sleeve. While it is a pain to get in the sleeve, it is completely worth it for me. A minute of struggle is nothing compared to how nice this feels with the strap while running. You really don’t need to grip it at all. And since it collapses while you drink it you don’t get any sloshing around either. Yes it is a pain to get into the sleeve. But that is a small price to pay for the experience while running so I still give it 4 stars. Would give it 5 stars but boy is it a bit on the pricey side.
great water bottle
I love this water bottle! It's perfect for shorter runs where you don't need a lot of water. It holds 3 gels in the stretch pocket. I've had it for 2 months now and no leaks. I only gave it 3 stars because it's NOT worth $50. Really Nathan??? That's a liiittle steep. I used a coupon and a gift card to pay for it because I was definitely not going to pay full price for it.
Torturous to fill + leaks + expensive
First, getting the bottle in and out of it's corset is a nightmare; but not a deal-killer. The big problem was getting the cap to close and seal. No matter what I did, it always leaked a little. Maybe mine's defective. After several frustrating attempts, I'm taking it back. All of this for a $50 water bottle. <insert scream>.
Do not buy
When you are running a race or long training run, the last thing you want is to lose half your water to a leaky water bottle. Bottom line, this bottle concept is great but the cap is poorly designed and/or sacrificed due to cheap materials. Im shocked this made it past product testing -- stay clear!
Good idea, but leaks
I purchased two Nathan bottles and both leaked. My wife and tried various ways of getting the cap to seal but nothing worked. Poorly designed lid. After I bought these I went online at Amazon to check reviews. Many buyers had the same problem. Have returned the bottles and replaced with an amphipod.
Better than the 12 oz version, but...
I have the 12 oz which in reality holds 8-10 oz and i do like it despite the less than advertised fluid capacity. They are easy to open and close, and the tops are wide enough to add ice, and they are easy to clean. I've had no leaks in over a year of multiple uses per week. The problem is not the bottle itself, but the sleeve that goes over the bottle which limits the amount of fluid that it can hold. If you take the sleeve off and fill it, the bottle holds the advertised amount, but it is almost impossible to pull the sleeve back over the bottle when full. If you fill it with the sleeve on the bottle, you can't fill the bottle to its max capacity. I still ordered the 18 oz because I really like it otherwise, and was only expecting it to hold 15-16 oz. It does indeed hold 16 oz with the sleeve. The design of the sleeve on the 18 oz is also better than with the 12 oz. For the price of these bottles, though, I really hope they get the sleeve right on the next one--would love to see a 24 oz version.
Wow - The 'Holy Grail' of Water Bottles -The EXODRAW 18OZ HANDHELD
I've been searching for a easy to carry, featherweight bottle for years. I may have located the holy grail of bottles - the new EXODRAW. The bottle features a 18 ounce silicone bladder that contracts with consumption, with an innovative holder that actually attaches to your hand. No more 'death grip' on the bottle while running. Drinking on the run is effortless using the bite valve cap. The single downside - the bladder cap leaks slightly while drinking from a full bottle. Try it - you will like it!
