I am not a mountain biker. I do urban rides and lot of long distance rides. These shoes work great for both. Very comfortable. The 'sticky' bottom is good. The shoe bottom is flat, so I always know where my foot is. I have hip and knee problems and I have limited mobility in both. Clip-less just does not work for me.
My son is a little young for clip in shoes and his regular shoes don’t have enough support. These are the perfect option, and come in a small enough size! He wears them as his daily shoe now.
