Big disclaimer: I haven't hiked in these yet. But, I do hike a lot. I just returned my new Lowa Renegades after their first outing on a Grand Canyon 30 miler where a seem split. Before the Lowas I hiked through the soles of my Vasques. These are my replacement boot. First impression is goodness sakes! These are superbly well made! I took a risk and ordered online because REI doesn't stock anything anymore that has 1) Minimal sewn seems 2) No exterior fabric mesh 3) No exterior rubber running along high flex areas. These are always the things that fail, wear out, or break down first. Oh yeah, and 4) Vibram soles. I ordered these because they fit the bill. Out of the box they are extremely comfortable. I wear size 9.5 to 10. My feet are a little on the wide side. I ordered a 10 but wish I could have tried on 9.5's. Still, my feet don't slide inside. The lacing system is great and keeps my feet snug. As stated on Zamberlan's website, they give you a little extra toe room compared to what you're used to, but somehow that doesn't mean your toes slide around, just that they won't be running into the toe of the boot on downhills. I would order the same size as your street shoes. Like I said, the craftsmanship is superb. Even the tongue is one continuous piece of leather, seamless with the rest of the exterior boot that just folds at the corners. Well crafted. Very comfortable. If they hold up as well as I'm hoping, Zamberlan will have my loyalty for life. REI, please do everyone a favor and stock these in your stores.

Gore liner wrinkles and causes blisters

My first pair from a couple years ago were terrific, so ordered another pair mid 2019. On a trip to Tuscany, the right boot was causing incredible pain on my outer right toe area. Checking, I found that the gore liner would wrinkle up, creating folds of fabric to rub against my foot. The left boot remained smooth. I later checked my Scarpas and La Sportivas and found the gore liner was smooth in the toe areas. I notified Zamberlan as soon as I returned home and they had me ship them back. Eventually, a new pair was sent to me, and checking the liner, I didn't feel any problems as before, so wore these on another trip to Tuscany, and guess what.....same problem as before. I have since sent 4-5 emails, directly and via their website, to Zamberlan, including photos of the problem, with no response. I don't know if it's due to holidays, or they just consider me to be a serial complainer, but I'm surprised. I don't ever seek to return something unless there are real problems with the product. I continue to wear my old pair which do not have any wrinkling of the gore liner, and feel just fine.

Most comfortable boot . . .

Bought these in the spring to break in for an 8-day fall backpacking trip on the Kumano Kodo. Didn't notice the boots at all on the hike. Light, waterproof, grippy, took a pretty good beating and still feel comfy and look almost new. Good support throughout and we were out of the gate between 500-800 meters up and then down every day. The toe box is roomy and it's a good thing because I was getting hammered on the downhills. Normally I feel I wouldn't have been bothered but I did something to my left knee early on which inclined me to accommodate and this meant putting constant repeated pressure on my left front lateral every second step down. Without these boots I probably would have been inconsolable by the end of the trip but as it was I only felt a little daily discomfort and no lingering soreness. I also found the bottom of my heel a little sore after a few days and I'm not sure if this is also due to my ministry of funny walks, but I may end up getting an insert to see if this changes anything. It could also be that I'm just getting old--worst kind of equipment failure. In short, I love the boots, and I wear them off the trail as well.

Great Footwear

So I bought these boots for work, not hiking. Why, cuz I cannot find a work boot that works for me, & I’ve tried just about every workboot that would protect my feet for my type of work. (Fabricator/welder) Now I can work my standard 10hr day without ANY foot discomfort, love these boots. Some of the perks of these boots other than comfort is the one piece molded leather top, no threads to burn up or holes for molten dropping’s to find there way through. Same with the sole, no stitching & the nice tough & aggressive vibram soles, hard to beat. It’s extremely hard to find such a boot, believe me, I’v Iooked.

Very happy after 1 mo.

I am totally in love with my Vioz GTX Zamberlain boots (for winter hiking) so I thought I would give these lighter boots a try for warmer seasons. At first they were a little tight against my Achilles (there is horizontal seam) and that had me worried, but after wearing them for a while that stretched out and I no longer noticed it. But I'm still not loving them. Not quite the perfect fit that I got from my Vioz GTX's. Something about the toe box and the base of the tongue just feels weird. I bought a pair of Oboz at the same time and I'm like the Oboz better as a light summer hiking boot. Now I'm just using these as a work boot.

Comfortable and functional

It will take a heck of a boot to outdo my 1994 Sundowners, but so far I could not be happier. My all-leather, made in Italy Zamberlan Trail Lites are great! Very comfortable! Nice looking! And, the toe box is big enough to not aggregate my bunion. Since they're leather, they were a bit stiff right out of the box, so I thought I'd give them a first time out, break-in hike of a mile or so. Four and a half miles later, they were filthy from a super wet trail, and my feet felt great and were bone-dry! The next day I did the same flat soggy 4+. Four days ago I took them on some rather messy steep hills, and they did great again! They kept my feet dry and provided good traction. Yesterday I loaded up my day pack with all the stuff I'm going to take down the Grand Canyon's Kaibab Trail to Phantom Ranch in March. Because of the wet weather the trail once again was very sloppy, and it was hilly. My Zamberlans are already as comfortable as my beloved but tired old Sundowners. I've only had four hikes so far, yet I can sense the beginning of a beautiful relationship. All-leather Italian boots may be a bit heavier, and they're not cheap, but they do the job! And, I'll bet they're still slogging away without stitching or separation breakdowns for years to come. I'll review them again after my epic Rim to River and Back in March.

Excellent right out of the box

I did a dumb thing: I bought these Zamberlan leather hiking boots for a 3-day Olympic National Park backpack, with almost no time for break-in. And they were awesome. As another reviewer noted, these boots fit my feet perfectly. I had no issues at all on the trail, and felt very stable. I love these boots. They are my last pair of hiking boots because I will definitely resole them, not replace them, when the sole wears out.

Solid lightweight boot

I bought these boots about 1 year ago as replacement for my AKU boots (which I love by the way) because I always wanted a pair of Zamberlans. I also wanted a lighter weight boot for taking overseas to save a little on weight. These boots fit the bill perfectly. I tested them out in Colorado on several hikes in RMNP and near Denver before heading off to the Alps doing 7-10 mile per day hikes with 2-3000 ft elevation gains and sometimes the same on the downhills (and carrying only my camera backpack that weighs 20-30 lbs). The trails were generally rocky and rugged and the hiking was tough but these boots stood up to it nicely. They look a little beaten up after 2 weeks of that hiking but they are fully intact with no signs of splitting or stitching coming apart. The boots are nicely waterproofed and comfortable especially on the downhills because of the foot cradling technology that Zamberlan uses. I held off on this review until I could be sure of the boot because I read some reviews that complained of the Vibram soles becoming detached. I had no such issue. My problem now is ... AKUs or Zamberlans?

Best Boots I’ve Ever Owned

These boots fit my foot like another pair of socks. It’s almost as if they were custom made just for me. Great traction on loose and wet surfaces, the correct amount of flex, and definitely waterproof. Make sure to get a few bottles of Hydrobloc spray, and you’re set. I wish REI sold the Hydrobloc spray, but I’m sure Nikwax Nubuck conditioner would work just as well.
