After its first washing, the side seam now goes from the armpit to my bellybutton. Returning of course!
I miss the old version of this Smartwool top. The old version from years ago had a set in sleeve and was 100% merino wool. The current raglan sleeve design causes fabric to bulge out in the armpit area which is not attractive. The dark peacock color is gorgeous and size small fit except in the armpit where extra fabric collected. Smartwool, please please bring back the old version of this top!!! The seam placement and the number of seams that made up the shoulder/armpit area of the old version was great.
I debated between ordering a small and a medium after reading other reviews-- I ended up choosing the medium and it's perfect and fitted just right (not too loose, but I don't like shirts to be skin tight). I'm 5'6, 126 lbs, 34B/C, fairly slim but with athletic shoulders. I have long arms and I love the length of the sleeves. It's very comfortable, not too scratchy for a wool shirt, and overall exactly what I wanted for hiking, running, and even everyday wear. Got it on sale but it's definitely worth the full price and I hope it'll last me for years!
Purchased for Spring trip to Mt. Rainier when projected weather in June was 12 degrees Fahrenheit and nine inches of snow! We ended up doing a 8-day 700 mile road trip through Western WA, going to Olympic NP, San Juan Island, and Mt Rainier. The shirt was perfect for many different temps and weather conditions: rain, snow, traveling by ferry to the island, up to Paradise. And because it's wool, it did not get stinky or out of shape with so much wear. Note: before wearing, I washing twice on gentle in a laundry bag using 7th Generation laundry soap. No softener! Let it air dry on a rack between washes. Came out great and was comfortable. I have sensitive skin, so I was a bit concerned about the itch-factor.
I’m sensitive to wool typically but this shirt doesn’t seem to bother me! :) I am 5’5 and 109lbs with slim arms. Shirt was snug but not tight. Note on tag states color may vary and mine did but I still like it.
I love this shirt, it quickly became my favorite top ever. I recently took it with me to Vietnam for 2 weeks and it was the perfect layer in the chilly north with just a rain jacket, but also light enough that it was comfortable even in the south. It also is the only piece that never felt damp and never had a weird "travel" smell; I didn't even wash it while there while everything else was washed 1-2x. I've worn it 20/30 days this month in Montana. It works very well as a layer, or on it's own as a sweater.
This is the first base layer top I’ve owned and so far it has worked quite well in freezing and above freezing temperatures. It can be worn next to the skin but I prefer having an undershirt so I can avoid washing it often and it feel and fits fine. I found that it regulated my body temperature very well - during a hike where I went back and forth through different climates (cold and damp to warm and dry) I did not get sweaty or overheated even with a sweater and vest on top of this layer.
I'm a big fan of my Smartwool 250, but wanted something a little thinner. This generally fits the bill, but the fit is floppy. It's not only bigger than my 250, but the cut is just...weird. It overall fits looser than my 250, the neck opening is oddly big so it's not a true crew-neck, and the sleeves are very baggy. I'm 5'4" and 115lbs, and ordered an XS. It's not flattering, so I won't be wearing it on its own in public like I do with my 250.
I’ve had this top about 18 months and loved the merino for temperature and odor control. Unfortunately, there are multiple holes under both arms. I am not hard on my clothing and wash with care according to instructions. Super disappointing given the cost of these tops. I bought another one in the spring before I realized the poor quality. Hopefully that one holds up better.
Wonderful quality, as usual with SmartWool, but this color of green is just lovely. This base layer is my "go to" shirt in winter and I am delighted to have it to wear in the winter months to cheer me up and brighten my day. Hope SmartWool continues to add more color to it's line. Would love to see a RED and maybe finally a V-neck version. V neck is not just for men, and V is a great line to show jewelry or a scarf or buff.
