Outstanding Adventure Bike!

The Diamondback Haanjo EXP Carbon is an outstanding adventure bike. I've had it for a couple of months and have logged about a thousand miles on roads, trails, singletrack, and gravel. My first ride was from Pittsburgh to DC on the GAP/C&O Canal over 4 days. It did great on the crushed gravel of the GAP. The C&O was a mud pit, and the Haanjo tracked through without problem. The C&O had a big closure at Paw Paw, and I was detoured to a singletrack trail over the mountain. In a rainstorm, the Haanjo and I pedaled up and over and my buddies walked their bikes. It is comfortable on long rides. It pedals fast. All of the components are a great fit. The bar-end shifters work great. The brakes are powerful. I made one upgrade from the stock saddle to a Brooks Cambium. The stock saddle is perfectly adequate, but the Brooks is my choice for long tours. The Smart Sams are great tires on the gravel and surprisingly fast on pavement. I've also added a Topeak rack and a pair of Ortlieb panniers. I've hauled more than 25 lbs of camping grear on a recent bikepacking trip. The bike handles fantastic when fully loaded. I highly recommend this bike!

Should be Great for Long Hauling

This is a great gravel grinder. I got it last fall with the idea of adventure touring. I managed a dry run camping trip before winter set it. It did great on forest roads and single track when I carried enough gear for a longer trip. I have made only a couple modifications -- longer reach stem, tougher tires, and a full array racks and bags. I will live off of it for two months this upcoming summer. I hope to see as little pavement as humanly possible. The first time I road it on a test ride it felt a lot like my old Reynolds 531 road bike. I am 6' 1" and riding the 56 cm.

Meets expectations and a blast to ride

I was looking for a bike that had mountain bike capability but cyclo-cross quickness and road manners. A do-all bike that can go bikepacking. Contenders were the Salsa Cutthroat (sold out for 2017), Fezzari Shafer and Niner RLT (also sold out). Given this bike cost less than those others and I got to exercise my REI dividend made for an irresistible purchase. It feels quick and nimble with plenty of stability on paved descents. As a few magazine reviewers have noted, like some other "gravel bikes", the bottom bracket is lower than typical Mtn or cross bikes and I've noticed this bumping the pedals on trails with large rocks and roots. The low bottom bracket is otherwise not a issue and no doubt contributes to a more stable feeling bike at high speeds. One improvement that I made was to swap the handle bars for something with a flare. For one I prefer a wider flared handle bar and also I was occasionally hitting my knees on the bar-end shifters when climbing out of the saddle. And regarding the shifters, I would have preferred an integrated shifter but I can live with the bar-ends. Bottomline: heck of a deal and would encourage anyone shopping around for cross / gravel bike to look closely at this one.
