Great for setting up top rope
I use two of these when I am setting up a top rope that is going to up for a while such as belaying my kids or with a big group of new climbers. After a year of use, no deterioration, other than a shiny spot where the rope runs over it. Definitely a heavier carabiner but I don’t carry it when I’m concerned about weight.
Metolius Steel Locking Carabiner
With a free flowing screw lock and crisp, responsive gate these are HEAVY and for securing top roping routes with my scouts that's just fine with me. I can hand one out to each person to spread the load on the approach hike and nobody complains. I use these for steel-on-steel with the in-place cable bastions and bolted anchors on the routes at the local state park climbing areas and/or on my cabled rock chocks for 3 and 4 point top rope routes in non-bolted areas. I even remember some areas (many years ago) that had chains put in at the anchor points and I wouldn't have any concern about using these carabiners in those locations as well (other than age of the chain). Good solid piece of gear.
Great for canyoneering.
Since recently I have been using a really stiff, orange BlueWater canyoneering rope. I have been using this carabiner to rappel on it. I use it the same way as in my good all air assault times (if you know what i’m talking about). I won’t describe any more as I won't recommend that metod to anyone that didn’t learn it in the military. It is a good way to get hurt if one does not know what one is doing. Oh I almost forgot since it is a steel carabiner one has to check for rust. Especially if one uses it in wet canyons. Another useful application I have given it, is building anchors for multiple rappales and slacklines.
Weight only makes you stronger
I believe that everyone should use these for TP anchors. Will keep your rope cleaner and last longer than running through aluminum. Super cheap and super strong
It is what it says it is
I’m not a small person and I got this to suspend a hammock swing from a stand and I have yet to fall flat on the ground so, all-in-all, a success.
Strong but Heavy
My girlfriend and I use this carabiner for lead climbing. It feels so strong like you could never break it. Great for anchors or belaying. I would never carry it up on a climb. Entirely too heavy for any situation in which weight is a concern.
Bomber Biner
What else is there to say? Heavy? YES Durable? YES I use these for a long day of top roping, will last a lifetime for me I am sure!
Heavy but will not compromise when needed!
Great product for a compromised anchor meaning there is binding directly on the biner, this might be the only time I would recommend using them they are extremely heavy and the force they are capable of would probably rip your body in two before failing, but they are heavy on the trail and up the wall.
Great for tope rope anchors
It's a great product that my intention was towards tope rope anchors. But as I start climbing more and leading more my needs have shifted so I got rid of them. Mostly because of the weight. they are almost double if not over aluminum ones and when trying to multipitch, they can get pretty heavy.
Use with confidence
I work in the broadcast tower industry and use steel caribiners for my personal positioning needs . I've used them daily and in situations where my life depends on them without fail.
