I wore these boots daily for a week of hiking and other activities in Iceland in the winter. They kept my feet warm and dry in mud, streams, rain blowing in 50 mph winds, and snow drifting in the national parks. I was particularly impressed that there was almost no wear in period. I did not get any blisters or hot spots from these boots. And at the end of a long day, my feet were still comfortable in these. Finally, I like the grey-green color of these which hides dirt yet blends well with any outfits so I felt as comfortable wearing these to fancy restaurants as I did hiking the Fimmvörðuháls trail. I highly recommend these boots.
I work in Sports Medicine and often stand in the wet freezing cold of New England covering Fall & Winter Sporting Events. I was looking for something comfortable, supportive & yet easy on the feet, while stand for long periods of time, with the occasional run onto an athletic field to care for an injured athlete. Plus it has to be light weight, water proof and insulated. This boot has it all. I have bought & worn many different boots. This is the best boot I have owned and enjoy wearing the with confidence. I strongly recommend these boots. If you have a slightly wide foot get them in a width. You will not regret your purchase. LATC
It has been over two years I have had these boots, worn most of the year in rain snow and mud. Looking for my next pair. They fit like a glove, no break in time needed. I went through three pairs of laces. Boots have a just started to come apart where the balls of your feet bend and the rubber nose ends at the leather. What can I say but if you want a great boot these are the ones!
Size runs small but bought in store so no issue as I was able try different sizes. I bought for winter hiking & snowshoeing. I found the way the tread aggressively curves up made it a bit difficult to fit crampons. Use with snow shoes was very good. They are incredibly warm, dry and well built. The aggressive tread had excellent traction on hard pack snow.
Pro: + Fit around the foot and ankles is great. Great support, hugging, and just comfortable. + Waterproof so far worked 100%. I stepped into a stream, socks perfectly dry. + The elevated rubber bottom looks nice against the brown. + Not all that heavy for a boot of this size Con: - A part of the front rubber has come loose from the shoe after only ~24 miles. Over time, will probably negate the "waterproof" feature. - There is 0 cushion or shock absorption. After 4 miles I knew I needed different insoles. I'm not a big guy, so I was fairly disappointed. - I don't foresee these being very warm once the Maine Winter temps hit.
Own the non-insulated version of these (also amazing) and was thrilled when I saw there was a winter version. I am now in my second winter with these and have no regrets whatsoever. They are as close to perfect as boots can be. I have used them around the city, I have used them hiking, and they excel at both. With a pair of wool socks my feet have never been cold even into sub zero. The water proofing is top notch and these things handle snow like a bison. The only thing I would warn is that they are hard to drive in, but that is true for any boot in this category. If you live in an area where you just get buried with snow I would go for the 10in version.
I walk in the Bend area to go to work and hike easy trails in the winter. My Sorell's were warm but the soles were worn out, and were as slick as a snowboard. My Keens had OK soles but the rest of the shoe was falling apart, again. These boots are sturdy, warm, and the part I like the most is the sole is very grippy on ice. Yes, they can slip, but the winterized rubber sole is made of a softer compound and offer excellent traction. I've worn these Oboz boots for a few months over ice and snow and have not wanted to put on Yaktrax yet. Time will tell if they hold up, but right now I'm super happy with them.
Boots fit well, I have a wide foot but a narrow heel, so its tough to find boots/shoes that fit without the heel slipping, these boots stay put. Foot bed is harder than most other boots I tried on, while not a deal breaker it and is something I believe Oboz could improve on. A lot of insulated boots feel tight over the top of the foot but not these, also plenty of room for your toes even when wearing winter socks. Over all it's a comfortable boot. I have worn them in water 3-4" deep and have not had any leakage. The 200 gram insulation works well for me for Texas winters, sock liners and some Merino wool socks contribute to warm comfortable experience.
These are the First pair of Obōz boots I have ever purchased. From the moment I slipped into them I was in love. I have 8-1/2 foot.... not huge... not wide or flat. I am not very hard to buy for. I have been wearing Merrell for the last 12 years .... the price may be a killjoy to some but if I can afford Merrell I can afford Obōz. First thing I noticed was the arch support was more pronounced over my current skins... BIG PLUS TO ME. Since they are Thinsulated I had to go up size with a size 9. If you plan on heavy socks I suggest sizing carefully with your intended Sock wear. The shoe is very well fitted and TOO TIGHT AINT RIGHT ... it will make your feet colder faster so plan ahead before buying. Very well styled... fit and finish is excellent and lightweight. I haven’t had the chance to get them cold... it’s only Halloween as I write this .... so BRING IT ON MOTHER NATURE... Don’t be a Bozo.... get some Obōz
Ever since getting frostbite on both my big toes in th past, I’ve always had to deal with freezing feet. I have heaters in my ski boots and always get numb feet, while snowshoeing and playing in the snow. Until now. After reading about how warm these boots are supposed to be, I bought a pair, hoping for the best. I was not disappointed. These are the warmest hiking/snowshoeing boots I’ve ever worn. Feel comfortable and most importantly, after wearing them on many outings this winter, my toes haven’t gotten cold at all. My wife bought the women’s model and both of us comment all the time about that these boots have been our best investment in a long time.
