Backstory: This is the first bike rack I've ever owned, so I have nothing to compare it to. I bought it because I moved from the Midwest to the East Coast and my car was full of my stuff, so the bike had to go outside the car. I purchased this to go on Thule Aeroblades I also purchased from REI (haven't reviewed those just yet, but so far I have zero complaints, looks to be a solid product so far). I did a lot of research on bike racks. I own a hatchback so a hitch rack wasn't an option for me, although they seem to be the best route in terms of affordability and ergonomics. I didn't want something strapped to my car, because I didn't want anything to rub if things shifted around. So I went the roof-rack route. I chose the Kuat Trio because it got good reviews and reasonably priced compared to a lot of roof racks out there. I watched some youtube reviews and it looked easy to install and a solid piece of equipment, so I pulled the trigger. This came a day before it was originally supposed to, which worked out great since my move was a work-related move and it was super stressful trying to orchestrate it quickly. Everything came undamaged and all necessary parts were present. Installation was super easy, not a whole lot of moving parts. It fit the Aeroblades pretty well, despite their asymmetrical shape. Putting the bike on is pretty easy as well. Make sure the fork attachment is completely open to make it easy on yourself to line it up correctly. Once everything was tightened down, the bike feels really secure on top. There is some flexing when you push on the seat or bars laterally, but not much. Most importantly, this thing carried my bike about 1400 miles with no issues at pretty high speeds (80 mph). The only time I was nervous was driving through Kansas with a 25-30 mph crosswind, which caused it to flex some. I read some reviews that driving around without a bike on causes the fork connector to rattle, but I can't hear anything in my car driving around the city with it on with no bike attached. I have not tried the lock, as I don't trust chain locks for my bike, but I gotta admit it's a nice touch, and a nice thing to have in a pinch All in all happy I spent my money on this product.

NOT COMPATIBLE with Subaru Outback

WARNING: this roof mount is 1/2" too long and will put a small divot in the rear hatch door when fully opened. I think it would have just fit....but then they made the cable lock stick out a little further, and that being metal, it's not forgiving when it comes in contact with your door's paint job. I have a Kuat hitch mount as well that I am extremely happy with. That was the deciding factor in trying this product. Had NO idea a manufacturer would allow this oversight for such a standard activity-based vehicle...simply too bad. The store only had one at the time of purchase, so I guess I lucked out in a way and only ended up with 1 small dent on the driver side instead of a matching set of dents. I will be returning!

Does fit Subaru Outback

I had seen reviews mentioning that this rack didn’t fit Subaru Outback, but this rack really was the best option so I decided to cross my fingers and try it anyway. It worked! Fit great on factory bars on a 2015 Outback, which should be the same design as any of the newer models, at least through 2019, so if anyone is waffling, go for it! I did make sure to mount it with the hatch open just in case, but I had room to spare. Works great with my bikes. Nice and secure. Does what a bike rack should. And, I’m very happy knowing this rack is relatively future-proof. The adapter system is very clever and easy to use.

Works great on 2020 Subaru Outback

Easy, secure setup for our bikes (disk cyclocross bike and road bike w/disk brakes). Packaging includes several adapters for QR skewers, thru axles, etc and a helpful carrying case to keep these organized. A previous review mentioned fit issues on their Subaru. The manufacturer’s website lists required spacing from front bar to lift gate as 52.5 inches. I confirmed our car has that clearance, ordered, and during installation started with the lift gate open to avoid any surprises. No surprises for our Outback; it works great with clearance to spare!

Works great, looks great!

Bought July of 2023. Used all over with the 9mm skewer. Stayed put like a rock. The skewer had an issue a few months ago, but Kuat support sent out a new one immediately. Got a new bike with 15x110 axle and it took seconds to switch out the adaptor.

excellent

I’ve owned Thule bike racks in the past. I needed something for my 4Runner stock roof racks. I bought 2 of these and they bolted on fairly easy with no additional brackets necessary and held 2 bikes, one with fat tires and one regular mountain bike. So far did 2 trips, one about 8 hours to Virgina and another about 6 hours to the Cape, both were stable the entire time doing about 70mph. Hidden built in magnetic lock is a bonus and imo they look much better than Thule. Would buy again I highly recommend for the price.

Missing the 12mm x 100mm adapter for my Pinarello

Sturdy roof rack but missing a very important 12mm x 100mm adapter. If your road bicycle has a 12mm x 100mm thru axle, then you need to order another adapter which is obviously not in stock. Looked everywhere. I guess I will have to return the rack since it is not usable like this. Perhaps the adapters they provided work with mountain bikes or other brands of road bikes. Pinarello and Specialized come with 12mm x 100mm.

Makes Bike Transport Great Again

Installed two racks on the Toyota Highlander rooftop and mounted two carbon stallions and heading north of the border (Seattle to Vancouver/Whistler, Canada) for the RBC Gran Fondo Whistler. Satisfied with the trip, forgotten we had two bikes on the roof, it was too quiet and withstood those long drive at high speed from Seattle and curvy roads from Whistler to Vancouver BC.

Racks have come a long way since the Thule or Yakima first came out with these fork racks. And Kuat is taking over in this department even though there price is higher, you get what you pay for though. It’s incredibly light weight and tightens down really secure. It’s really simple to mount and use, no instructions needed. I definitely recommend this rack though make sure it’s compatible with your car.

Didnt fit the car

About an inch too long preventing me from opening my trunk (honda cr-v 2018)) and cannot be shifted forward. Also, it did not come with the brackets that work for smaller depth crossbar (oem honda). Alot of wasted time…
