writing a review years after first use
I’m on my second pair. I have trouble with shoes feeling comfortable and it takes forever to break in shoes. I love these shoes. They are versatile and I swear by them. I am currently in India right now and I’m so glad I brought them as my one of two pairs of shoes that I brought. I have lived in Europe for the past almost 4 years and have been traveling like crazy during our short stint here and have put so many miles on them (thus, the second pair). The waterproof factor is essential in Europe. They are comfortable enough to lightly hike. I can wear them in winter and summer (maybe not so cute with shorts though). They are worth every penny.
My shoes just took me to Russia!
For the first time in 20+ years, I found my feet comfortable without tender spots on the soles of my feet. I love these shoes. I was looking everywhere for a comfortable street shoe for my two week tour of Russia. My feet are "duck feet," wide in front, narrow heels. These shoes fit perfectly. They survived and were comfortable on cobblestones, dirt paths, in mud, cold weather, and rain. With my REI Coop crew socks, these were the perfect combo. My feet were toasty warm in the cold weather. They look fine with jeans or black skinny knit pants. Oh, yes, Russia was great, too. I recommend all three.
Great, stable shoes for walking over cobblestones
I bought these shoes for a recent trip to Spain and Portugal. I purchased them primarily as a good walking shoe that had capability for remaining waterproof in the rain. While I did not have the opportunity to test them out in the rain, they were excellent for all of the uneven walking surfaces I encountered during my trip, I could not have been more pleased. They were incredibly stable, very comfortable and kept me from slipping or turning an ankle on numerous occasions. I found them to be better than my current hiking books and will consider switching brands the next time I need a pair of hiking shoes.
These shoes saved my life
These are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. My feet are very tender and ache after a long day. I have no serious foot issues, but the aching is made worse by the fact that I walk about 4 miles per day on road surface, then I'm on my feet at home on hard surface flooring. I can get everything done when I'm wearing these shoes, no more sore feet breaks needed. The rocker bottom sole combined with the firm cushioning makes for a perfect feel. One negative feature is that they began squeaking after the first few wears. I still give a 5-star rating though. I don't care if they whistle Dixie.....they are so comfortable and my feet no longer hold me back from doing anything. Highly recommend.
Great Shoes
My feet are regular width with medium to high arches and these shoes were absolutely perfect for walking all day long. I usually have trouble with most shoes because of lack of cushion and support. I wear them everyday, I've even taken mine on trails for the half day hikes and on our adventures. I have had mine for about 8 months now and I love them, I've also worn them out. If I can remember correctly, I did have to get used to the back of the shoe pushing into my leg a little. Highly recommend these shoes. I do wish they made them in white or lighter colors for summer wear.
Best shoe purchase ever!
Oh my goodness. They are soooo comfortable! They had the support and cushion I was looking for to make my wide, bunion, crooked toe feet feel good and energized. Love the color, love the style—I actually would call my feet cute in them!
Well made light hiker
These shoes are well made, and very supportive. I have very sensitive and hard to fit feet, so it did take some strategic additional pads and adjustments to get them to fit right. So far, they are doing well on my hilly neighborhood walks and appear to be keepers for the long term. I also plan to try them on day hikes as the weather warms. It is possible my rating will increase to 5 stars, but it is still too early to know. I was a little puzzled why REI categorized these as "casual" shoes rather than "light hikers". They are made more like the latter and heavier than your standard street shoe.
Extremely comfortable and durable shoes!
I've worn these shoes almost daily for 7 months, mostly for indoor work and outdoor walking. They're incredibly comfortable. I oversupinate and have high arches and they feel great! You can see from the photo that the soles are starting to wear out a bit on the outer edges -- however, they're still really comfortable. I'm considering getting one or two more pairs and alternating which pair I wear to make them last longer. The tops of the shoes still look great and none of the seams are coming loose, there is however a little bit of wear on the fabric around the ankles and on the light gray rubber running around the shoe. I recently wore them on a very muddy hike. My feet still stayed completely dry in them. When I got home, I scrubbed them with water and a brush and set them in the sun to dry for a day, and they were completely back to normal! My main complaint is the shoe laces, they just won't stay tied. I'm going to try replacing the laces with flat laces, but it's annoying to buy a pricey shoe and then have bad laces that you have to spend more money and time on replacing. I'm an 8.5 in most shoes and I went with the 39, they fit perfectly. They're not the most attractive shoe, but they're not hideous either, and the comfort makes up for the lack of stylishness.
Waterproof upper? Not so much
These are one of the most comfortable pair of shoes I’ve ever worn. However, I wore them last night in the rain and my feet ended up soaked. And no, I didn’t step in deep puddles or have rain get into my shoes from my rain pants. It seems to primarily be a problem along the tongue of the shoe. So the bottoms and toe were dry inside but along the tongue was wet all the way thru. I’m really disappointed. I can’t seem to find comfy waterproof wide women’s shoes (other than my Lowa hiking boots) and I think I’ve worn these too much to try to get a refund from Dansko.
Stylish and Waterproof
Given my foot problems....I think I've finally found another shoe that I can wear besides my good old standby, New Balance 928. This is a stylish and lightweight shoe. Plus it's waterproof, a huge plus given the pass rainy season. Nice to be able to change out to a shoe that appears to be more airy for those hot days. The removable insole accommodates my orthotics.
