A Classic Go-to Fleece
I had ones one of these many years ago and sadly lost it. This year I took the plunge to buy another one. It’s been my go-to fleece for the last few weeks since I bought it. The first reason is the classic look of the jacket. It’s a Patagonia icon. The second reason is the quality and function of the jacket. With an wind-resistant lining the jacket does very well fighting off and cool breezes or downright frigid gusts. The jacket doesn’t do well on rainy days. You’ll definitely need to pick another option or add a water resistant layer over it. The size is on the smaller size for Patagonia. I really had to debate getting a medium or a large. For reference I have a 39” chest. Had I gone with the large it would be easier to layer with a hoodie or similar. I went with the medium which is a good fit if all I’m wearing is a t shirt under. I can squeeze in with a hoodie under it, but the next size up would have been better for it.
Always keeps me warm, incredibly useful
I do astronomy, which means sitting outside at night in the cold for hours on end. I needed more to stay warm, and this fleece delivers. It's the warmest piece of clothing I have and it's proving to be so useful. I can be out there with my telescope for hours in sub-freezing temps and always stay warm. Perfect mid-layer in the freezing cold or as its own jacket when it's not as cold, or inside when temps dip. This fleece became an everyday staple for me, indoors and out. Great for frigid nights outside and chilly mornings inside. Get it, you won't regret it.
Don't leave the house without it
Absolutely love this thicc boi for a cooler night. Nice and warm with surprisingly great wind protection. One thing to note is that it's not fuzzy on the inside so may be less soft than some people prefer. It's got a solid weight to it and keeps it's shape well when worn - that being said it also mean's it's not going to pack down much. I tend to wear this around the city and less so for outdoor excursions, though it would be a solid choice for car camping. Pockets have good storage and collar folds down nicely if you prefer that look.
Warmer than I thought.
Seriously warm, wind proof, comfortable jacket. I wore this for the first time today in Central Arizona driving along I 40 heading East from Las Vegas to Seligman, Arizona for my job. It was snowing the entire time and when I got to Seligman, it was 32 degrees and snowing. This jacket kept me warm and all I wore was underneath was one layer of REI Active pursuit quarter zip long sleeve pullover.
Decent jacket.
Bought the XL and it fits relatively well, though the shoulder/armpit area is a bit tight. The upper portion is a bit form fitting while the bottom half is more roomier. You can wear a base layer shirt and a lightweight fleece/wool sweater and even a lightweight vest underneath though the vest may make a snug fit. There's no inner pocket, only the pockets outside. There's a stiff mesh membrane that's sewn together with the fleece that blocks the wind. It's relatively warm and will block most of the wind but it won't provide that much warmth when temps drop to the low 30F or below. Visit New England during late autumn & winter when the cold, wind & wind chill cuts through your bones, hence bone chilling weather. No way you're going to wear just a regular shirt underneath in freezing temps, despite what some people state in their reviews. Best to wear under an insulated or shell jacket/parka when freezing temps. If you move around in the cold, your inner body will feel hot so it does provide some warmth. The jacket is somewhat stiff because of the membrane lining and the fleece may even get a bit hard over time. There is no cinchcord in the waist which is needed considering the price! Patagonia needs to update the jacket to make the shoulder/armpit area Looser and include a waistcord! It should consider making a hooded version but make it a bit looser fit. For comparison, the retro-x vest is More snug fitting than the jacket. Buy when it's on sale as Patagucci clothing is expensive at regular price.
A Classic to Rule Them All
Cut and materials not as comfortable as the original Retro Fleece, but still an excellent choice as a stand alone jacket or layer in harsh conditions. Great warmth and wind resistance for its weight. This is my third one and I would not hesitate to get another.
Looks just like the picture
This is a great looking sweater. I purchased it for my boyfriend to dress up with slacks since we are in Alaska. I’d recommend getting a size up if you don’t want it too snug and want to layer.
Comfy but bulky
I loved the lol of this coat. I still love the coat, warm and attractive but a bit bulky. Better for walking and sitting than for doing anything work related
The only jacket you need
Seriously warm jacket. The windproof lining is awesome and the fluffy exterior makes the jacket extra cozy. Sizing chart is a bit weird, but it does fit true to size. My chest is 37/38 and I normally order XS, but for this jacket I ordered a S and I’m still able to wear a relatively thick long sleeve shirt paired with a vest underneath the fleece. Jacket zips up fine with everything underneath and I still have full range of arm movement. I find the collar a little too stiff, but when it’s really cold and windy I appreciate it. Maybe it’s because I bought cheap fleece jackets in the past, but this is the only fleece jacket I’ve ever owned that doesn’t smell absolutely rank after using it. Highly recommend
Warmer than you think
Not only does this jacket look stylish, it keeps you extremely warm as well for the cold New England winters. Also fits perfectly, would highly recommend.
