Does what you expect from a Yakima product.
I bought this as a hopeful alternative to a roof rack system for my 4dr sedan. It provided secure storage and solid transportation for any bike I put on it. Looks good for a trunk rack and installs quickly. It does not however provide a good permanent solution. It did allow moisture wicking into the trunk in heavy rain and did cause some damage to my paint (Nothing major just clear coat scratching that.buffed out). I couldn't use the truck with it installed obviously. Bottom line. It's great if you aren't too lazy to take it on and off. If you're lazy or want permanent access bite the bullet and spend the extra on the full rack or hitch.
Sturdy and secure
I looked at a number of different trunk-mounted racks before settling on the Yakima FullBack 2. I ultimately based my decision on its apparent sturdiness, even though it was a bit more expensive than some other options. Initial set-up and installation took a few minutes as I sorted out the settings and straps. The second time I put it on my car was much, much faster and easier. As far as carrying the bikes, very secure and with very little sway even on some rougher roads. Make sure to readjust the tension on the straps after loading the bikes, and maybe again after driving a few miles. Once properly seated, everything stayed perfectly in place.
2016 Mini Cooper
This fit perfect on my 2016 Mini Cooper was worried at first because of the fin on it but there are gaps to be able to put the straps through.
Trunk mounted bike rack worked beautifully.
I purchased this bike rack to fit a Mustang Convertible with a spoiler and it worked beautifully to transport my bike 1500+ miles earlier this month. After making the initial adjustments setting it up it was quick & easy to remove to gain access to the trunk & to reassemble on the car. The straps were easy to use and tighten and I noticed no sway even while traveling at high speed on the interstate.
Locking cable too short
I bought this to fit my 2017 Prius Hatchback. It seems secure enough but I specially wanted the Fullback Rack because of the built-in locking cable. Since the instructions say to load the bike closer to the car, it can not be locked with the internal cable because the cable is only long enough to lock at the second bike position. Kinda worthless for me as I will carry only one bike. Might take it back for refund.
Solid bike rack but use online setup for SUVs
I'm so glad I bought this bike rack! Follow instructions #1 to the set-up webpage to see what your HUB setting is. You can also see photos for hatch installation. The pics in the installation manual are fairly worthless unless you have a trunk. It's very sturdy once it's installed correctly.
I will make a little adjustment and it will be . .
perfect. Once installed this unot is solid. more so than racks I have used in the past. Though it took me a while to get it on in the first place it was minutes or less to reinstall. The only thing that I was confused by was the hub setting. It is marked by a very small dimple in the plastic. Color it white or orange or anything so you can see it and the install becomes a breeze.
$300 Trash
This bike rack doesn’t even fit two bikes without damaging them both. The mounts are not spaced apart far enough to mount two bikes without the handlebars damaging the wheel spokes or the chain mechanism. And they are not adjustable whatsoever. Good luck fitting anything other than stupid hipster road bikes on this thing. If your frame is even slightly slanted, you have to buy the $50 adapter to put your bike on. Mountain bike? Forget about it? Child’s bike? Nope. Womens bike? Good luck. Horrible. Horrible product. Save your money and save your bikes. Stay away from this overpriced piece of junk.
Should be called fullback 1
On the hand, easy to install and relatively easy to use for one hybrid / gravel bike on a Subaru Crosstrek. Pretty much impossible to use with two bikes. Going to return for the fullback 3 so I can use it with two bikes.
Great concept, but not One Size Fits All
DW and I recently purchased our CTY 1.1 bikes and needed a way to transport them home. We bought this rack after reading some reviews and having certain level of expectations. While the set up and take down is easy, mounting our bikes proved a bit more difficult. It is possible that this is a size thing, but no matter how we racked them, the handles ended up in the spokes or chain of the second bike. Hers is a size S and mine was XL. The tie down cord was helpful as it prevented the wheels from moving during our trip home. Overall it’s a great rack but just not conducive for our needs. As others have mentioned, taking this back and getting the 3 bike rack as it will provide sufficient spacing and provide a better fit.
