I own many Yakima products, two roof rack systems (BaseLine with BaseClip 117 for our 2012 Toyota Prius with 50" CoreBars and RidgeLine with RidgeClip 17 for our 2019 Hyundai Tucson with 60" JetStreams), a medium OffGrid roof basket and SkyBox 16 Carbonite. Not only are Yakima products easy to install, they are sturdy and come in handy in multipurpose use. Need extra space when moving? SkyBox got you covered. Need extra storage on a long road trip? OffGrid roof basket got you covered. I've loaded a SkyBox 16 on our 2012 Prius to the max load on a naked roof, traveling from Los Angeles to the Sonoma coast (Jenner) and had zero issues. We've traveled with a loaded OffGrid roof basket from Los Angeles to Carmel-by-the-Sea, again, no issues. Be it BaseClips or RidgeClips, they are both sturdy and clamp onto the roof line and flush rails snugly and securely. I have never for a second doubted Yakima.
These clips are terrible and not secure. There is almost no surface area actually holding these onto your rails, and the rubber grip comes off with minimal use. Worst part is Yakimas support, or lack there of. I own TONS of yakima gear but after this I will be selling it off and going with another brand that offers better support for their products
I bought the RC30's (for Volvo V90 CC) directly from Yakima, as REI doesn't stock these. But they are all similar. Relatively thin metal, and not very wide. I am not confident these will hold the rack on tight in rapid deceleration braking, or in an accident. Way smaller, thinner, and flimsier than Thule fit kits. And these clips fall off continually during installation, making it very frustrating.
Fourth type of Yakima towers I've owned, happy with all the others; however with these the clips fall of the base really easy when not attached to a car, lost one clip of the eight, and now have to buy a whole new set.
Didn't realize the ridge clips stuck to my flush roof mount after a long road trip and removal of towers. Lost two because they flew off on the highway. Now I have to buy a whole new set? Very disappointed in design. Will have to buy a whole new set of clips. Wahh wahh.
