I researched backpacks excessively before deciding on the Osprey Nova - part of the 24/7 series. I'm on the road 3 out of every 4 weeks of the month - so I needed something that could hold everything I need, while keeping it organized and not being overly bulky or heavy. Something that would still fit overhead on regional jets, while being able to hold my work and substantial personal "stuff" that I travel with. The Osprey Nova has exceeded my expectations - and that's not an easy thing to do! I did opt for the yellow bag with teal accents (sale color from 2018) - and the only complaint that I have is that because it's a lighter color, dirt show a little more easily. The pack does wash well, however (I put it in a large delicates bag to keep straps/mesh from catching during the spring cycle) and hang to dry - and it's been as good as new. I've had the pack for a little under a year, but wanted to take my time with it before writing a review. As you can see from the first photo, it's probably due for another wash. There is a substantial mesh pocket in the front of the bag - I usually use that for my glasses (as seen in the picture) - or anything I want to be able to access quickly - this pocket is accessible while the pack is on with a little finagling. There are little loops on either side of the front of the bag - that can be used as a quick anchor point for anything you'd like to clip to the bag. I've fed my dog's collar through these loops, clipped reflective lights to them, etc. The water bottle pockets on either side of the pack are pretty standard - there is a compression strap to keep things secure and smaller bottles from slipping out. There are also side compression straps towards the top of the pack - when the pack has more stuff in it, these are great for keeping everything as compact as possible. The first compartment has SO. MANY. POCKETS. I love this feature. I can keep everything I need visibly, organized/separated - and it doesn't bulk up the pack - like if I just there all of these items into one accessory bag - and then threw that into the pack. As you can see, I have all of the personal necessities (laundry pen, electrolyte tabs, chapstick, hand sanitizer, hand lotion, instant coffee, tea, granola bars, pens (so many pens), markers, gum, a flashlight) - and that's just in the little mesh pockets. There's also a zip pocket that holds a travel first aid kit, a travel towel, wipes, etc. And there's a key "chain" feature in there as well. Before I move on, let me also mention that the padding on the back of the pack is primo - and well-ventilated. I've occasionally had the opportunity to get some hiking in while on travel and this transitions well for that purpose - and dries out nicely if you get it a little sweaty. There is also a loop at the bottom of the bag. I've never needed it for anything, but since REI limits the number of pictures I can post, I didn't want to waste one on this feature - but I was able to slip a NUUN tablet bottle through there, for size reference. The pack has two "main" compartments. The first one has a zippered pocket in it - I've used that to hold post it notes, a spare charger, and other work-related items that I might need while traveling. There is also an open "pocket" against the back of the compartment that you can use to segregate paperwork - or for other things. It's a pretty unremarkable compartment otherwise. The pack compartment has quite a few features. First of all, there is a headphone feed-through to the outside of the pack. There is also a mesh pocket that I used to keep extra cables and wires in. It does open up completely so you can lay the pack flat if need be. This compartment also has a padded laptop compartment - which is pretty nice and padded - a nice feature. Finally, there is a small zip pocket towards the top of the pack - I can comfortable fit a travel charger, sunglasses and more pens in it - with room to spare. This pack is small but mighty - it holds an incredible amount of stuff without being bulky. The pack distributes the weight nicely - and it organizes everything so I don't need to sort through bottomless open concept bags. I HIGHLY recommend this bag!
I bought this just before an extended trip to Europe, where I wasn't *backpacking* but where I did a lot of walking with this backpack. IT WAS DOPE (both the trip and the backpack). I wasn't hurting (until, like, hour 12 of walking with it, but obvi that'd happen). I crammed so much, SO MUCH stuff into it, and it still fit under the seat on the plane. I walked through heavy rains in Copenhagen with no umbrella, and everything inside was still dry. I've only had non-prestige brands of backpacks (you know what I mean) so I'm obvi pretty blown away by this thing. Its many pockets make me feel organized and like I'm finally ready for grad school...maybe. 100% recommend. Get off that Jansport/Eastpack game, that's for basics
Love this backpack! I bought it for an 8 day trip and a couple of long flights. It was perfect. I absolutely did not want to check any luggage or drag along something on wheels. I used one packing cube for my clothes and everything else had plenty of compartments for things to be stored neatly. My medium sized water bottle fit perfect on the outside. I had lots of extra room for things I purchased along the way. Zippers were sturdy and the fit was just right for me. I am 5'6". I think it is well made and it's also very pretty.
I bought this bag about 6 months ago with the intention of taking it to Sydney and to Washington D.C on the plane. I was looking for a bag that had space plus was comfortable to wear when traveling around with my camera. I LOVE this bag. It looks good and it does everything I need it to do. Only complaints is the water bottle compartments are odd so my bottles always fall out but I'd rigged it so they stay in with a clip. Easily my favorite bag pack.
I have a weird problem with backpacks that often the straps feel too close together and cause it to feel like I have a pinched nerve in my neck so I am picky about backpacks. This is a good one if that is your problem too. I am able to wear it all day and find it very comfortable. It's a medium/large size, not a huge space but not small either. Also, good divided sections for different items, good nylon pulls on zippers. Only criticism is that the drink holder could be a little deeper but the bottles have not fallen out, just seem a little less than ideal.
I have been using this for everyday & weekend trips. I love that there is a slim laptop/notebook pocket and a larger, full sized area for everything else. I also love the front mesh pocket - for a helmet, but I toss my keys, or jacket in there as well. I'm taking it with me when I leave for Ethiopia for two years.
I was looking for a light backpack that would be multifunctional - travel for work as well as hiking. this pack is very lightweight yet has all the right compartments for easy organizing. the only downside is the side pockets are so small that my water bottle keeps falling out.
I bought the backpack a month ago and can't say enough great things about it. Lots of pockets, comfortable straps and a padded area for your laptop. If you are looking for a work backpack or even a great pack to travel with, this is the one.
Super great bag. It has tons of well situated pockets and, in my two years of rough and heavy use (everyday at school with heavy textbooks as well as stuffing it to full capacity on day hikes), it's still in great shape. I also had a slight issue with one of the internal zipper pulls (it came off), but nothing about the zippers have ever really bothered me. The back pocket (for laptops and such) opens like a clamshell, which once opened up all the way when I was out after I hadn't properly closed it. Nonetheless, I'm very happy with the quality and functionality of this bag -- which is also the perfect size to hang your food up in on overnight camping trips.
I never thought I would fall in love with a backpack. I normally get cheapy ones at target, so I have no experience outside of this. It's flush to your back and distributes weight excellently. It's mostly been used for long days of college classes filled with textbooks, my hydroflask, and my laptop. can't wait to take it on a hike.
