Called Trail Boss for a reason. These work best on the trail with incredible grip. Only the deep mud caused some slippage. Quiet on pavement too. Highly recommend. These are the best mountain bike tires I have used so far!
Good tire, with nice tread pattern and sticky rubber. Worked well in varied terrain, both sand and rock. This was a wire bead one, so no ability to go tubeless, but it met the need for a decent price.
I'm going to preface this with the fact that I'm a complete cycling scrub, I purchased this with almost no research so read this review with that in mind. So my brother had a cheap bike that desperately needed a new rear tire; like the treads were decimated, he was a hazard to himself and others on the road. I took off the tire and brought it into REI asking for one that could replace it. The dude at the bike area recommended this one since it fit the diameter and width requirements. Bought it, took it home, found a YouTube video on how to install these and viola, the bike's mobile again. I took it out for about a 5 mile ride and noticed that it held up pretty well, there were some issues with stopping but that was found to be the fault of the brakes (again, CHEAP bike) but it seemed to have really decent control over the desert dirt and asphalt. I've only taken it out for a few miles but after handing it to my brother he says it rides really well but I'll update this review if there's any issues with it, for now, solid replacement tire, might get the same one for the front once that wears out.
I replaced a front tire with this and on the 1st ride with this tire I had to patch 4 holes in my innertube from last years sandburrs penetrating the rubber. I have a tire on the back that I have been riding with on the same trails for 2+ years and its still holding air. So now I'm searching for a different tire.
My bike is riding better than it did before the repair. My Cannondale needed some updates and as a result, changes were made to make it ride more smoothly. Mission accomplish and I will try a longer ride on the Sacramento Bike trail.
