Great backup paddle

This Loon is not the cheap paddle most start out with. Nobody other than a racer needs better. Don't start out with less! That said, this is the entry point. I have done 4000 miles with worse, just as heavy and less efficient with a smile on my face and a song in my spirit. You will be happier with a lighter paddle. I have my Loon in my larger fishing boat. It is longer than what I use in my canoes. Freeboard is way taller. Highly recommended. Cannot just leave in sun and weather--it's laminated wood. Had mine for over 20 years bouncing around and still looks like brand new.

Fine paddle, terrible QC

I bought three of these. One was fine. The other two had major quality issues. One had a rough spot on the grip that was like sandpaper, you wouldn't want to paddle that. The other had terrible finish on the blade, huge runs. I honestly have no idea how the manufacturer shipped that out. The paddles overall seem good but who wants to deal with returning them if they show up with problems straight from the factory. At this price you shouldn't have to deal with these issues.

didn't last the summer

I was really happy with the weight and design of this paddle. It worked well on lakes and rivers. However, the paddle cracked within the first couple of uses, so I sent it back.

Glad it floats because I keep dropping it...

Great paddles and extremely comfortable, just make sure you get the right size for your body.
