One of the Best Bikes Ever!
The Electra Loft 7D is a gorgeous bicycle, very comfortable, and easy to use. I feel very secure and firm on the road while riding it. The 7 speed hub is perfect for every occasion and can handle going up steep hills in first gear rather easily. Shifting between gears is smooth and flawless. The twist shifter itself is handsome and compliments the overall physique and design of the bicycle. Once in seventh gear and situated on smooth terrain, this bike can cruise along effortlessly at decent speed. The breaks work well and can adequately bring you to a safe stop without any worries. This is a great bike and definitely worth the money!
Love it
Loving my Electra 7d so far. It’s very comfortable and feels light. The matte green looks even better in person. For sizing I bought the 55cm frame size and I’m 5’11”. I only clear the top bar by about 1” so I would hesitate getting the 55 if you are under 5’10”. Stand over height is approx 32” on the 55cm.
Nice Bike for Commute
I bought the Loft 7D to take to work a few times a week about a 12 mile round trip and for riding on paved trails. It is fun to ride and the upright style is very comfortable. The only complaint I have about the bike is the lack of ready ability to mount a rack. I had to buy a seat post clamp adapter to mount a rack on the bike. I picked one up at REi when i picked up the bike and they mounted it for me.
I feel like a kid again!
The Loft 7D is a fantastic recreational bike and a blast to ride. I'm a mountain biker at heart, and for the better part of the last three decades I've only owned and ridden mountain bikes. Recently my wife has gotten interested in recreational bike riding. She owns an Electra Townie and loves it. So while at REI for another purchase, I gave the Loft 7D a go. I instantly fell in love with it! The upright riding position is extremely comfortable. The gearing range works perfectly well for my area (mostly flat with some rolling hills). And the bike has style for days! It took me a while to get used to the grip shift and the handlebar shape, but it is so comfortable to ride that I don't mind the bit of learning curve. One thing to note: neither of the wheels nor the seatpost are quick-release. Stupidly, I didn't even notice when I made the purchase and didn't realize until I got the bike to my car and discovered I couldn't get the front wheel off to get it into the hatch or on my bike rack. The REI mechanic quickly loosened the 15mm nuts for me, so it wasn't a problem. But if you are looking to car-top this with a rack that requires you to remove the front wheel, be warned.
Perfect crossover bike!
It’s a smooth ride on pavement or a trail! I got it for the seat because I have tailbone issues and I absolutely love it! So comfortable! I’ve bikes 40+ miles on it and haven’t wanted to die from tailbone pain after! Definitely worth every penny!
Hard to find a compatible rack
Comfort saddle. 7 gears, yet I feel difference between 1- 2, 2-5 and 5-7 only to be honest. So that could be 3 gears with roughly same experience. The bike is pretty nice in general. But it has nonstandard mounting points on rear frame. So it is hard to find a rear rack that fits. And you likely will need to rig something.
comfortable ride.
I've been riding all kinds of bikes for more than 50 years now. I would say this bike is a cross between a touring bike and a cruiser... a lightweight cruiser. It's comfortable to ride, but it can move right along. If you just want to go out and ride 30 or 40 miles on gently rolling paved roads, this is a great bike.
Fun bike!
It relatively lightweight, is actually pretty speedy if need need be (on neighborhood rides), has a great upright position so that you can take in the day and skies, has a great looking matte finish, and rides smoothly.
I can ride it for the whole day, everyday.
I've owned more than a dozen bikes, all kinds of bikes. As I'm getting older (37 yo), I feel my back and butt both don't want me to ride a mountain bike or a racer bike anymore. So I sold all my bikes and started to look for a comfort ride, which could be used as a commuter as well as weekend leisure rides. I just picked up this 7D yesterday. I went out for a ride at mid-night. It rides quietly and smoothly. The 7 speeds are well enough for a pleasure ride. I can ride uphill with the 1st gear easily, and can get to 15 mph with 7th gear comfortably without feeling a rush. The style and color of the bike remind me of the bike my dad had when I was a little boy, those good old days you know. The riding position is pretty much straight up with a relaxed feel. One downside is, when making a large turn, the front fender could hit my foot. This is a tradeoff of having an upright position, as the handle bar has to be close enough. I'm 5'8" and picked the regular size. I can hop on and off without much effort. However, when stopped, and with the seat at the lowest position, I can't put my feet flat on floor but with toes on both side. Most of the parts are aluminum or alloy, except for the fenders and the thing coving the upper part of the chain, they seem to be painted steel. I'd hope these parts can be made of aluminum or alloy as well. Overall the bike is well built and the quality fits the bill. I'm glad I had chosen this bike and I expect it can serve me many many years.
Electra 55cm Loft
This is a good quality bike that rides well and is a good buy for the money. I wanted a bike without too many gears but nice enough to easily ride against the wind. I’ve added a rack and a light so it’s ready to go!
