Great pedal for those of us who are already on the Crank Brothers train. If you aren't, then hop aboard! I've been using their pedals (eggbeaters, candy 2) for years and years mostly on cyclocross & road bikes and and never, ever had a problem with them. They work flawlessly with little or no maintenance and clear mud like nothing else out there. These are no exception. I'm a recent convert to the whole "don't use clip-in shoes for everyday wear" thing, so I was a bit skeptical about the efficiency of a pedal with no application of power through the up-stroke. But I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable & solid they felt while pushing hard, even uphill. These are on a single speed (freewheel) and they are just grabby enough for a wide variety of shoes (trail runners, outdoorsy casuals) that they are quite effective once you have a good cadence going. They lack the scary hobnail looking things on lots of BMX or downhill pedals which is much appreciated by my shins. Initially took off one star because when new they are VERY tight on the clip side and I can't seem to figure out how to adjust the tension. They have loosened up over time and as long as I unclip before I stop, I haven't toppled over since the first attempt to unclip. Also, they are quite heavy, but that is due to the full metal construction which should stand up to long-term abuse of 4-season use. Color on the center spring wears off with use, but its just cosmetic. All in all, another great product from these guys.

You'll Never Fall So Much - Death Pedals

Using Shimano SPD clipless pedals (on a tight setting) for over 10 years I decided to give these a try simply because they were what was in stock as an option for a platform on one side and clip on the other, at the store when I purchased the Co-op DRT 2.2 MTB. I literally fell at least once every ride because I just couldn't unclip with multiple times of still having difficulty getting my feet unclipped whilst on the ground in an awkward position connected to the bike after the fall. 90% of the time getting going it would be 15-20 yards before I could get both feet fully clipped in as well. One day telling another rider about how I've never fallen so often who had Crankbrothers Eggbeaters, he said, "Oh, just loosen up the tension. They should be adjustable like these." I was so relieved! ...until finding out, this model is not adjustable and getting to one similar that would be is twice the cost! I really wanted to get used to these, but after a few months of riding and even buying the "easy release" cleats there wasn't much change and I still fell at least once every outing resulting in quite the bruises in various places. I put on a set of Exustar SPD equivalent to these and felt at ease once again. Easy to get in and out of and a couple of potential falls I was able to catch myself with my foot after releasing so easily. I would give them 1 star if it weren't for what I did like - the large platform for tooling around the neighborhood or greenway rides with my children. Very comfortable with just flip-flops, more so than the Exustar option.

Decent design, Sometimes annoying

These pedals do exactly what I bought them for, they're able to make the transition from cleats to tennis shoes without changing the pedal. The only issue is that when your in cleats and want to use the clipless side, it can be a hassle mid ride, especially because for some reason if your forced to use the flat side, they'll slip off due to lack of friction. The same goes for the opposite side of the issue. When your using regular shoes for the flats, the friction between pedal and shoes isn't really there, thus creating small and short lived issues until you can get the pedal flipped.

Dad pedals

I've had egg beaters for years. But since my girls started riding bikes, it's a pain to always cleat up for a family ride. These are the answer. I wasted money on the plastic crank brothers platforms purchased on Ebay, they broke in 3 months use. These allow me to ride in flip flops, tennis shoes or cleats if I want.

Happy with my First Clipless/Platform Pedals

This being my first experience with clipless pedals, I'm happy to say it's been a positive one. Fairly intuitive and easy to get in and out of these pedals, and they haven't sent me flying once. The platform side is more than sufficient, and really convenient for those days you want to just ride your bike to the grocery store. Awesome!

Great for commuting

I’ve been riding Crank Brothers since the first gen Egg Beaters, and still ride them on all my bikes. I would not necessarily recommend them for mtb rides, but for those who do some clipped in and some normal shoe commuting, these are great. Clipping in isn’t quite the easy roll in experience of other CB pedals, but you get used to it. And to address the stiff spring feel that others mention, all CB pedals are like that when new.

Good not great

Added them to my fatbike, they work well. Allows me to ride with clips or flats without changing the pedals. The cons are the studs on the platform are not aggressive enough for winter riding. They do not hold the boot as well as other platform pedals.

Versatile pedal at a good value!

Love the versatility of these pedals on my gravel bike. Not the lightest in the world, but they fit a wide array of riding situations for a good price. My only complaint is how tight the spring mechanism is, particularly when first installed. Clipping in/out proved more difficult than other pedals on the market.

First Clipless Pedals

I just recently purchased a gravel bike and decided I wanted to try out clipless pedals but still have the option to use flat sides. Took a few attempts to get clipped in the first time, but before the end of my first 15 mile ride, I was clipping in and out like it was second nature. Definitely recommend for anyone looking to try clipless pedals for the first time.

Comfortable flats; easy to use cleats

My wife and I have several pair of these, and are very happy with them as a touring pedal. I find the clip-in function simple and easy. To those that have had trouble getting in and out, try checking your shoes, as I had one pair that had a deeply inset and narrow cleat mounting area. I trimmed the soles slightly around the cleat and solved the problem.
