The tent is fantastic, easy to deploy and pack. Plenty lightweight. My only issue at all has been that over time, the little plastic window on the rainfly gets brittle and will crack or separate from the fabric around it. For a version of this tent withOUT the window failure point, check out the ALPS Mountaineering Aries series of tents. They are a nearly identical tent to the REI Half Dome 2+ and are a hundred dollars less expensive at normal retail price. I used mine on the fireline for 2 seasons before it started to fail.
I love this tent. Primarily being a hammock camper, I needed a roomy, light weight tent to use for Boy Scout camping or backpacking with my wife (she refuses to sleep in a hammock). This thing is light weight, super easy to set up, and has tons of room. It had kept us dry in a downpour, and stood strong in high winds. I really like the mesh shelf to have someplace safe for my glasses, phone, and headlamp.
Used this for the first time on a 6 day/5 night camping trip in the high desert of Northern New Mexico in August. It held up great to winds and 2 nights of serious rain. Super easy to set up and roomy for 1 person (me). I can't imagine having 2 people in this tent (especially with gear), but it is technically possible I suppose. Also, tent packs down super light and small, so it was easy to travel with. Also bought the footprint which helped a lot, especially with the rain. Great buy!
This was my first tent purchase and overall, was satisfied with the Zephyr 2. Took it to New Zealand twice and took full advantage of the full mesh tent body to stargaze from my sleeping bag while hiking the Taranaki Circuit. While the tent held fast in a big southern NZ storm I had some issues with water pooling in the rain fly over the top bar, more annoying than anything but did not leak into the tent.
This tent held up great on a very rainy backpacking trip. HOWEVER.. one side of the shell had a faulty zipper and it took minutes of working on the zipper to keep it closed enough to keep rain out. That being said.. if I can get the zipper fixed, I would keep this tent. It fit me, my friend, both of our packs, and my dog (under the vestibule) and we all stayed dried.. even with the zipper being busted on one side. It's also super easy to set up and break down. The hammock holder is a bit of a joke, but it can hold my glasses at least.
Great free-standing warmer weather tent. Basically a screen room with the fly taken off. Decent airflow with the fly on. Fairly lightweight/backpackable for the price. Optional footprint fits well. Really more of a roomy one person + gear size tent. I use it as a solo backpacker. Later bought the Zephyr 3 which is a perfect size for two people. Heavier but still manageable.
Haven't had the chance to get out yet, but its the size i've been looking for, lightweight and easy to set up. Will try to update when I can.
