Great upgrade to a Fenix 5
Upgraded with trepidation from a Fenix 5, whose HRM functionality was useless. Very pleasantly surprised by the accuracy of the HRM on the Venu X1, it matches my Polar chest strap cycling and strength training. And while not perfect, the X1 does a way better job of counting reps while lifting than the Fenix 5 ever did. I've had it about a month, there is a lot I am still learning about it but so far it has exceeded expectations. Only negative is the battery life, maybe 5-6 days instead of the 9 advertised but this is very manageable, way better than the 2 times a day my wife has to recharge her Apple watch.
Excellent quality, highly functional
Overall, this watch is amazing quality and I've found it to be highly functional and accurate. Its weight and slim face make it hardly noticable on my wrist. The band is very comfortable and keeps the watch from moving at all during activities that would jostle other watches around. I havent had any issues that others have reported with previous garmin watches. All of the physiologic sensors are spot on. The navigation is fast and accurate without any lag. While activley navigating a route it will reroute you within 1 second of missing a turn. I didnt intend to use this watch for sleep metrics/coaching but it has honestly been extremely helpful and I wear it every night. Ive been very pleasantly surprised as the accuracy and functionality of the strength training features. The Venu x1 connects seamlessly to my phone for calls, texts, and multiple other apps that I would otherwise receive notifications on my phone for such as calender, whatsapp, news, email etc. Everything about the interface is highly customizable, so much so that Id recommend whatching some tutorials or reading the user manual. The battery life is fantastic, and while not nearly as inpressive as the fenix or enduro, the 8 day battery life is more than sufficient for anything that Im usuing it for. It outperforms the apple watch ultra in pretty much every category aside from the lack of ECG functin, though unless youre an 80 year old person with afib you wouldnt need that anyway. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the Venu x1. I havent experienced any glitches nor do I wish any aspect of the watch performed better. Im actually very shocked as I was fully expecting there to be some shortfalls or annoying issues... but no. Cant recommend this enough
Finally, an Ultra-Slim Sapphire Lens OLED Garmin
Decided between the Forerunner 970 and the Venu X1, and settled on the X1 due to the fact it is by far the slimmest Garmin smartwatch to date, and it features a huge OLED square display with a sapphire crystal lens. If you are looking for a Garmin smartwatch that can track 99.9% of the activities that you do daily, displays notifications with large text fields, and can also be worn to sleep for accurate sleep tracking, this is the one. I've worn it over the last two weeks, and have done over 22 hours of hiking/walking activities when I visited Acadia National Park. The watch tracked perfectly fine for densely wooded trails, despite not having dual-band GPS. Many have complained about shortened battery life compared to a forerunner or previous venus, without even using it, but let me tell you, the charging is convenient and fast. Topping battery off every couple of days during your morning coffee routine takes 15 minutes or less. And the watch uses about 5% of battery per hour during GPS tracking, and uses about 10-15% of battery per day including during sleep, so your realistic battery life is about 5-7 days (more workouts shorten this number). Touch interface is quite good, not apple watch smooth but smooth enough to do all the tasks needed. OS is reliable, no freezes or restarts like my previous Garmin Edge cycling GPS. I come from Garmin Epix Gen 2, which I've used for the last 3 years, and I am super excited that Garmin finally put out a ultra-slim smartwatch that can do everything that I need. The watch is extremely comfortable to wear; you don't feel it much on your wrist. The nylon band is elastic, easy to remove. If you are a sweaty person, the strap can be easily removed and cleaned and it drys out pretty quickly too (20-30min in the sun in a humid region, probably 10 min in the sun if you are in a dry region).
Second day with the watch and it’s unusable
Second day since I’m owner of the watch and it started freezing and rebooting constantly when trying to use it. Tried resetting it to factory settings and the watch got into reboot loop that can’t tackle!
