I've owned 5 pairs of these shoes over the past 25-30 years since their inception and never had fitting issues until now. The backs have been reinforced with a thick rubber that cuts into the backs of my Achilles tendon regions. I wrote to Five Ten but they ignored my complaint. The stealth rubber on the soles works great but BEWARE THE CUTTING TENDENCY OF THIS NEWER MODEL.
Loved these shoes for Canyoneering as the sticky rubber was fantastic, but I only wore them about 10x and the rubber separated from the sole. Had to duct tape one up to get out of my last canyon safely. Dangerous failure at the wrong time and place.
I ordered my typical size and these shoes run large. This most likely has to do with the size being wrong, but there was a lot of slipping in the heel and blistering going on. Many of my friends have also experienced this. They seem like solid shoes with great rubber, though.
I have to say that I am a bit disappointed in these shoes. I wanted a pair of approach shoes as I do quite a bit of hiking on uneven terrain/steep slopes which require a bit more than a hiking shoe, but a bit less than a full on mountaineering boot. I ended up using these for field research on lava rock (which is very rough on shoes) and have pretty much destroyed them in the two weeks I was most recently working, but my assignment is not over, and I have to wear these for the rest of the season. Some of the main reasons I am disappointed are the rubber is already splitting away from the shoe on the toe box, the shoes do not have as much support as I would like and my knees begin to hurt by the end of the day, the shoes run a bit small so my feet run into the toe box, the laces loosen very easily, it is hard to tighten the laces enough to feel secure in the shoe, the heel of the shoe is very loose and although they run small somehow my foot pops out of the heel constantly, and they’re not that comfortable when just walking on trails, also these shoes also leave skid marks everywhere so don’t wear them inside! Honestly, I was expecting more out of the shoe for the price. Some redeeming factors are that they come in fun colors, and the laces are very durable.
