So, took these out for an initial break in walk of 3.75 miles today just to see if there were going to be any issues. Very comfortable from the start! I laced one too tight and had to loose it about 2.5 miles in. But it fixed the problem. Seems you can loosen and tighten easily for the fit you want. Huge bonus in my opinion. I did order these a half size bigger than my normal shoe size and I’m glad I did. These are a great fit with a 10.5 size. My feet typically measure 9.5, but I have wide flinstone feet and always get a 10, since this is a hiking boot I’ve learned always order up at least a half size. The heel fit well and is not sloppy and I had just enough room in the toebox. That’s rare for me. My feet did get sweaty and were damp when I took them out but my wool hiking socks were completely dry in 7 minutes or so. The real test over time is going to be do they make your feet smell bad after frequent use. These are a rigid hiking boot. As they should be in my opinion. There is slight curvature towards front of toe box. What I mean by that is if you’re just walking on pavement it kinda makes you walk loud. These are meant to hike on dirt and rock. Not a walking shoe. If anyone is familiar with Newton running shoes that have the bump on the bottom of the shoe to help running form, well these have a similar feel but the bump is more towards your toes. It will help you when climbing up and going down hills. There is NOT literally a bump it’s just the curvature of the shoe I believe. Feels good honestly and helps keep foot in place if you lace it looser. I wasn’t sure about the higher than normal top for me. But love it! The top is Padded well and thin enough it’s flexible unlike many of the lower cut boots I’ve had that can rub and cause issues. I have thick legs and bigger ankle area than most women so it’s hard to find a comfortable hiking boot. Mission accomplished! Last note is that these will need break in time for the shoe and your feet most likely. Don’t buy them and go do a 12 mile hike before breaking them in and making sure your feet love them too. Okay, very very last note... it’s been at least 20 minutes since I took them off. The inside of the boots are reasonably damp to the touch. I think this is my only concern with these boots right now. They are waterproof but info that came with said breathable from the inside. I might need to disagree with that at the moment. Worth a try for the $59 sale price though!
I just traipsed around Europe for two weeks with these as my only boots. In addition to being really cute (in blue), they were extremely comfortable and waterproof. They did get soaked one day, but my foot never got wet. I put SOLE insoles inside, so I'm not sure how much that helped, but I an say, as someone with foot issues, I was extremely happy with these. I wish more hiking boots came in colors and not just boring brown or grey. Here is an accidental pic I took in Budapest.
I have purchased this boot 3 times and will do it again. I have a normal width foot but a narrow heel, which eliminates many brands. This boot fits me perfectly from first day, required no break-in. I wore them on five backpacking trips this summer, at least 5on-trail days each, on the AT, Montana, Yellowstone and Yosemite, without issue. Only drawback: wear them out in 2 seasons
This is my second pair of Ahnu hiking boots, and I got them after wearing out the soles of my first pair. They are so comfortable that there is really no need to break them in, and light. Just came back from a hiking trip where I had them on all day, and they still felt fine after a day of hiking.
I love Ahnu boots. But this particular pair dig into my Achilles tendon and after two hikes I don't wear them again!
I love these boots! For one thing, they look good. But more importantly, they FEEL good. I can drive in them, which I cannot always do in dressier ankle boots without my right foot starting to hurt. I bought a half size larger than I would normally get, at the recommendations of others and because I will sometimes wear thick socks, and the size is perfect. There's plenty of room for me to wiggle my toes, and there's also just enough arch support that my plantar's fasciitis has not bothered me. The soles are very solid, which doesn't give my feet a lot of flexibility but does protect them well. I hadn't expected it, but there's a front-to-back curve that contributes to a good, rolling stride when I walk--the first time I stood up quickly, wearing the boots, I almost rolled up onto my toes! And they are indeed waterproof, almost to the ankle at least (I haven't tried deeper). Be aware that they are a little heavier than some hiking boots (a good detail by which to compare your options), but that also makes them solid. I bought them for an upcoming trip to Scotland, and I am wholly satisfied.
I wore out every hiking boot/shoe within a few months until I found this one. Comfortable from day one until this day. Fit is right on, not a heavy boot AT ALL! Very breathable, does not suffocate my feet. Very attractive boot I had to sew 2 tabs (that hold the laces) back on, but no big deal. I am buying my second pair. Ahnu- don't skimp on quality or you won't keep your customers.
I loved the boot and it was true to size, however I an exchanging it because its a bit too heavy.
I loved these boots so much! but they fit a little shorter than my usual size.
Love Ahnu boots. My last 3 pairs of hiking boots have been Ahnu. I wear them everywhere, not just hiking. My first pair was 8 1/2, never got black toes from hiking or any sores. Second pair I bought an 8. Big mistake, black toes from hiking hills. I'm not back to an 8 1/2 and will be trying them actually hiking at the end of Jan. Beware, these are not boots you'd wear in icy conditions.
