My Closet for 5+ Years
I purchased the 70L model before this one and was a vagabond for 63 months living out of it. I continent hopped 17 times, tons of flights, trains, buses, harsh conditions, multiday hikes, jungle, snow, sun, rain, dirt. I loved that backpack. I traded it in for the current model, which is even better. The day bag is a significant upgrade with a handle on top and space for a hydration bladder. And I love that you can wear the day bag in the front and it locks into the larger pack and hangs in front of you, opposed to putting it on your shoulders. The waist harness and weight distribution of the big bag is superior to the previous model. Before checking in for a flight you can zip up the back and hide the shoulder straps. Always easy to spot on the carousel at the airport. This thing is a beast and can take a beating.....I am six feet tall. When I bought the older model I weighed 265 pounds and now weight 195.
Cheaply Made
Fabric ripped on the pack by the zipper shortly after return window closed. Osprey will fix it, but I have to pay for the shipping (which in this case is about 25% of the cost of the pack).
Great for getting around even on uneven streets.
this was a great travel pack for a month in Europe. the detachable day bag was more handy than i expected, and i will never go back to a wheeled suitcase after seeing everyone else struggle around the airport and cobblestone streets and we could just walk easily.
Hip strap is too short.
The hip strap is woefully inadequate. We had to purchase an REI extension. The two svelte women associates at REI could barely connect the strap. We have other Ospreys that don’t have this problem. Apparently we’re not alone, based on other posted reviews.
Everything I was looking for...except
This pack had everything I wanted. The stowaway straps, large capacity, and a separate carryon bag to use as a daypack, however the day pack is sooo small. It sits uncomfortably like wearing a child's backpack. It would be great if it were just a few inches taller and a little deeper. The chest harness isn't very great either if you're a bigger guy. Apparently made for twigs. Big guys adventure too!
Best all round travel bag
I’ve had my farpoint 70 since 2018 and it’s done a lot of miles with me. In fact I’ve used the daypack so much that it’s been completely sun bleached to a much lighter colour than the main bag. The size is great for long weekend trips and I’ve backpacked and camped for many weeks with it as well. I love this bag so much I bought one for my partner as a birthday gift because he was jealous of mine. The new version is a little different but we like all the changes that osprey have made. My sister has the women’s Fairview version too and it’s just as good. In my opinion it’s one of the best value packs in the range, especially if you’re a grad or a student and can get a discount. Would recommend to everyone, keep up the good work Osprey!
Excellent backpack except for internal compartments.
This is a review that I wrote elsewhere. Hello, Twin Never Ending Footsteps! Good post that reaffirms my faith in Osprey Packs. Initially and short-sightedly, I wanted to return it as lack of any internal compartments made this a lame choice. Thanks to a promise-breaking friend (no longer a friend as what good one is without his word!) who claimed it on the day I was to drop it off to the USA returning friend and later refused to buy it, flat out, I was stranded with 'this thing'! The falling in love was gradual, like in an Indian arranged marriage. Today, I cannot imagine going out without this unimaginably-comfortable backpack. Cheers for #Osprey70! The hip-belt is an act in itself. This is the first one that I have seen that tightens when pulled together as against pulling away. This system blew my mind off as the ease of adjustment goes 10 notches up, immediately! Packing for shorter trips is a pain (because of the lack of compartmentalization) and for those I got a Field & Stream Shop 55 External. (I have added some packing cubes in my arsenal and still packing is a slight pain. I cover everything with my towel and lungi and then cinch the internal straps. It works great, that way. Am still learning tricks to pack it without using smaller packs in it and the going is good! Cheers, again, Your twin, Ra. ""Osprey will repair any damage or defect for any reason free of charge – whether it was purchased in 1974 or yesterday. If we are unable to perform a functional repair on your pack, we will happily replace it."" UPDATED:- From 4 to 5 stars. Why! My falling in love with it is complete! It is near perfect but I still miss compartment that could have been suggested/recommended/unsold in the nonexistent owner's manual. 'Pwner's' manuals have gone out of fashion, methinks, due to cost-cutting/rationalisation measures by all companies! The world will never see the top quality products of 60-70s, anymore.
Best Travel Backpack Ever
This bag is worth every penny. I've had my for about 10 years now and it has never let me down. I mostly use it for backpacking and have taken it through Central and South America and several times to Asia. The detachable pack is a game changer. It's easy to fly with and comfortable to wear. Some of the clips and cords are starting to break down due to so much wear, but I expect that given the amount of abuse it has been through. I'm very happy with my purchase and will likely be getting a new pack soon!
Great traveler
It fits in the overhead compartment of all the flights I've been on so far! Solid interior packing space, and the detachable bag fits comfortably under the seat in front of you on the plane. Fits my laptop, a light zip-sweater, glasses, pens a small notebook, and room for more. I love that the laptop compartment doubles as a water bladder holder for day hikes. 20oz yeti Water bottle fits snuggly and securely in mesh bottle carrier.
I love mine
I really don’t enjoy taking my rolling suitcase if I can avoid it, because between myself, my wife and son we would have a lot of luggage for two people to move, so I tend to take my farpoint with me to free my hands up and needless to say I’m a fan. It’s perfect for me and will use the daypack as a carry on or a pack for around town once we get to where we’re going. If you’re on the fence, it’s worth the purchase
