Too Soft for a BC Boot or Any More Advance Skiing
These boots are not firm enough to get a good ski edge. To call them "BC" is a bit of a joke. They are also difficult to pull on as the inner boot is so floppy, the lacing does not come high enough up the ankle and the ankle strap is flimsy. The strap does very little to provide the ankle support and firmness that the rest of the boot lacks and is needed for any BC trips or track skiing involving hills. I would have awarded just a one star rating except the boots are comfortable once you have managed to get into them, they breath well and are waterproof. I would not recommend the 5 BC and will be returning my pair to REI for a refund.
Good considering...
Had I not tried 2 other boots in a similar price range, The Alpina Traverse (much too narrow in the forefoot) and the Rossignol BC X6 (no support and bad lacing), I would probably give this Fischer Boot 2 or 3 stars. When I got the boot and put it on it felt very comfortable. I wear a size 47 and lengthwise it was a perfect fit. However, as is, my heel does not lock down in this boot. When I went to test them on my skis my heel would slip up and down in the boot when I kicked. Considering that I was not interested in trying yet another boot I decided to put a pair of Superfeet insoles underneath the manufacturer insole and the heel slipping problem stopped. The extra few millimeters of the insole made a big difference and also snugged up the boot, but not uncomfortably. Perhaps on smaller boots this is not an issue. I'd say for the price and if you have wider feet, this might work for you if you are willing to tweak if needed. I give it a 3.5, again considering my previous experience with other BC boots.
Fisher OTX five NOT a offtrack boot.
So the boot has very little/no stiffness so edge control esp. in deeper powder etc. is very poor. The silver material has frayed, I have not broken any trail in crusty snow this year just heavy wet corn. In addition the water just pours in, which begs the question why the boot gators. The only good thing I can say is they are so soft and flexible I can drive with them no problem…… yeah I'm being sarcastic.
