Cristallo Trekking Pole Review

I bought these poles for a 9 day trip to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro. They were also used for some day excursions before that trip. These poles worked very well, the clamps held and they collapse quickly. Some of the clamp parts are plastic so you need to be careful not to adjust too much pressure on the closing lever (although I never had any issues with them breaking, just an observation when looking closely at them). One nit is the difficulty in adjusting straps, but once adjusted, they don't become loose after heavy use (downhill). Awesome poles that took me up the Western Breach of Kili and worse (where they really came in handy) -- down.14,000 feet. I recommend them highly.

Amazing durability

Using leki cristallo for 8 or 9 years.. For hiking in everest region, mt kinabalu, mt kilimanjaro and many mountain in indonesia. The durability of this product is amazing, and the weight is not too heavy. The only thing needs to improve is the grip i think, more soft will be better.

Best purchase - perfect performance

I purchased two sets of these poles for a trip I took on The Knobstone Trail (50 miles over 4 days with 10,500 total elevation gain). I'm 5'8", 200 pounds carrying a 40 pound pack. These trekking poles performed flawlessly. The grip/strap is comfortable, locking mechanism never failed and the calibration/height measurement on the poles makes adjusting longer/shorter a breeze on the fly. I felt a little crazy investing in poles of this quality, but I thought over and over again on the trail, "Wow, am I glad these things are light and strong."

First pair of trekking poles

I have never used trekking poles. I have had several knee issues and carrying a heavy backpacking load started becoming a problem going downhill more than up. I bought a set of Leki poles and have used them on 3 outings so far. I like the positive cam lock. It is adjustable and I have been able to place a lot of pressure on them both up and down hill with no collapse of the pole. I an 6 ft and 220 lbs. it took a few miles to get used to them but I will not hit a trail in the future that has big elevation changes without them. They work fine for me and I like the boost they give going up hill. I usually carry 35-50 lbs and these poles make hiking easier. These are the only poles I have experience but they are great for me. I would buy them again.

Excellent poles, well worth the money. Top notch.

These poles are very light, very easy to adjust, and very rugged. I weight 260 pounds and I worked these poles hard on a snowshoeing trek in the white mountains of NH in -35 degree temps. I replaced the speed baskets with snow baskets and the tips worked great on the ice. Being able to adjust the straps on the fly to accommodate my snow gloves was a great feature too. I highly recommend these poles for anyone.

Killer sticks!

Only set I found with ergonomic grips that are reversible in my hands for easing descents. Easy to change length even in gloves with the latch mechanism.

Best poles yet

Put about 200 hard miles on these so far. Very good poles. I`m 6-3 and 220 . I put alot of weight on them as I push off my triceps as well when hiking. That said, they vibrate alot on pavement with rubber tips. Not a complaint only an observation. I may switch to cork handles for less slippage.

Good for a big guy.

One of the few sets with grips that can accommodate large hands wearing gloves. I'm 6'5" 245 lbs. Plenty sturdy. Shaft adjustment easy even wearing gloves. Wrist straps a little finicky until you get the hang of them. After trying much more expensive Black Diamond shock absorber models, I switched to these and love them. Lower technology locks, but they perform flawlessly.

Leki Cristallo Trekking Poles

Much of the outdoor activities that I enjoy (hiking, etc.) involve some form of stepping up, but I have an old knee injury that can become painful on steep slopes, rock climbing, and uneven ground. I bought these poles in the hopes that they might help me with balance and take some of the uneven force off of my knee joint. I received my poles the other day and used them on a 6 mile hike on the Grand Mesa, CO. The terrain was rock, mud, some snow, and dry ground with many areas of steep up and down slopes. On hard ground they have a significant amount of vibration through the body of the pole. This I found to be somewhat disconcerting. However, I also bought the rubber walking tips and will see if they eliminate the vibration problem while using them on hard surfaces. They seemed to provide me a great deal of help on both the steep climbs and the uneven terrain which was slippery in places. They aid in traction and my knee did not hurt me like it can under these types of conditions. I also wanted to see if I could give my arms a work out as well while I am hiking, and this they did. My triceps were pleasantly muscle sore when we were done. I am about 6 foot tall and weigh 270 ( a weight I am trying to amend). These poles are easily adjusted and held their length position well while being used. I look forward to putting them to the test even further and plan on trying them while snow shoeing this coming season.
