Round the world
I take this Merino Wool liner with me everywhere. I use it as a sleep sack, travel blanket, scarf, shawl, and most recently a lungi while washing clothes on a long trip. It goes with me to the Arctic, Europe, and Middle East regularly. I recently bought a second one to have “just in case”.
:)
I was looking for a heavier bag liner to blow my REI dividends on and so decided on this product. This liner is super comfortable and a great warm addition to my sleeping rig (so good my girlfriend has stolen it from me). I love merino wool products for their comfort, wicking ability and thermoregulation. The quality of the liner is excellent (I also own a silk siner from Cocoon which is just as excellent) and it comes with a nice mesh stuff sack so the liner can breath after use. I was a bit surprised at first of how big it is in the stuff sack (roughly the same volume as a Nalgene) but the size is practical given the comfort provided. Totally worth applying all my REI dividends towards.
Regulates Temperature Wonderfully
When using just a sleeping bag I found I always ended up sweaty. If it was a hot night I would be sweaty all over, if it was a cold night I would be sweating in the depths of the bag and then cold up top. This liner helps regulate that by separating me from the sleeping bag fabric, allowing me and the air to move around a bit more. On 40-50 degree nights I have taken to just draping the hood of the liner completely over my face. It is light enough to allow breathing through but warm enough I can avoid a hat or balaclava for my neck. At this point I simply would not use a sleeping bag without it. Side benefit, it is much easier to clean than a sleeping bag. Quick toss in the washer and then draping to dry it a breeze after each trip,
Merino wool bag liner
Just one trip into the high country so far. It wasn't that cold, so it wasn't an "acid test." In fact, during the nights I found it too warm. My down bag is rated to 25 deg F., which is not especially a real cold-weather bag, so I thought the liner would be a perfect addition. It is very comfortable. I'm kind of biased in that I really like merino wool stuff better than synthetics against my skin. It IS pricey compared to most of the synthetic ones. And it wasn't available in-store.
Replaced my base layers.
I used this in conjunction with my Feathered Friends Flicker UL 20. Usually the bag is comfortable to mid 30’s (despite its rating). Anything below that and I need base layers to sleep through the night. This seems to perform better than my base layers and I find it far more comfortable. Slept last night in mid 20 temps and was comfortable. If I used this with my base layers I believe I could be comfortable in high teen temps with the 20 degree bag.
Feels like I am sleeping in real bed sheets
Definitely gives a nice warmth boost but the best thing about this liner is the natural fabric. It feels like I am in a real bed! After a 8 mile trek even baby wipes dont clean your legs enough to not feel sticky against sleep bag material. This liner gave me the best sleep I've ever had in the backcountry. Definitely would buy again.
Must have
Would highly recommend this liner. I have used it to tent and hammock winter camp in -18C/0F to 0C/32F temperatures and there is a noticeable gain in warmth compared to not having the liner in my Sea to Summit Tk II sleeping bag that has a comfort rating of -1C/30F and a lower limit of -8C/18F. I’ve also used this liner as a stand alone sleeping bag in 4C/40F to 10C/50F temps with my normal hiking clothes on and felt comfortable.
Good for Sweaty Sleepers
I got this a year and a half ago (earlier version, no drawstring) because my meds make me sweat at night and it's gross. At home, the only thing that helps is natural fibers, so wool was the only bag liner choice for backpacking. After almost 2 summers, I love it. My sweating is reduced, but even when I do sweat, I stay warm, it still has a nice skin feel, and it doesn't stink. A+ just for that. I'm a cold sleeper, so the added warmth from the additional insulation is great, and the cozy wool also just feels warmer than bare sleeping bag, and hugs my body. It's nice and stretchy, I can fold my legs in through the top opening and it keeps its shape. When it's hot, I can use it as a top sheet. If it gets sweaty, muddy, full of bug spray and sunscreen, it's easy to throw in the wash (on delicate, and no dryer). It is heavier than non-wool options. I prefer some weight on me when I sleep so that's a plus for me. I love it and use it for all my camping needs, whether backpacking or car camping, hot or cold.
Awesome merino wool
I love this! I sleep in a hammock full time and love how soft this is and it keeps my down top quilt cleaner. I’ve been using for over 2 months daily with no issues at all. I bought when it was on sale and it’s been worth every penny. Waiting for another sale to buy a back up as I never want to be without this. Just wish it came in other colors like a Morrocan blue.
No drawstring! Otherwise good.
I bought this to possibly use solo in warm summer weather, and as a liner for cooler temps. Haven't used it in cooler temps yet... but I don't think I will get there as I plan to return it soon. I bought 2 and both didn't have the drawstring feature. For a premium price that advertises this aspect as being included, I was disappointed. I did enjoy the amount of stretch it has. I wouldn't recommend using it alone in temps 64 & lower, as I was chilly (thought I would be comfortable at those temps, but I judged wrong). Overall, I wouldn't say it is a bad product. I didn't get to fully test it since it came missing the drawstring. I plan to go with the coolmax instead for the lower price point.
