comfy but sized large and a bit noisy
I work from home and bought these to wear daily around the house and to also use as comfy base camp footwear when it's time to shed the hiking shoes. First off they are sized large so I'd recommend buying a half size smaller than you normally wear (I normally wear 10.5 and bought 10's after trying them on). Yes they are comfy and have great removable insoles...the only negative is the soles are made from a material that is harder than other shoes so when walking around on tile and hardwood floors they make a tapping sound which is kind of annoying and not good when you're up late or earlier than the rest of the household had trying to be quiet.
Olukai slip-ons, great for travel
Came into REI to get us usual go-to slip-ons for travel, Merrell. As I was about to try on the Merrells I noticed these Olukai alternatives and decided to give them a try - nice! Since traveling for Summer was in the works, I thought that the lighter Olukai's might be better for this go around and so far in the hot & humid south of France I was right. Olukai makes products that are endorsed by foot doctors due to their inherent arch support, so in addition to being functional they're good for you. I'll still come back at the end of the year for some Merrells when we start getting into snow/ski mode, but right now it's all Olukai.
A Week in Hueco
I was looking for a sturdy pair of shoes without laces that I could wear on short approaches to crags and boulders that I could slip on and off between burns. I was skeptical of how well these shoes would hold up but after several trips in the woods of Arkansas and 1 week walking around on the sharp granite like rock of hueco tanks these shoes have become a fast favorite they have plenty of grip and when sized down a 1/2 size provide a secure comfortable fit. However for those with flat feet, bad knees, or those going on long, difficult approaches or hikes I would not recommend this shoe because of the little support offered by it.
My Go To Summer Shoe
I have owned these for almost a year now, and have been really happy. At first the price was a little steep for me, but I haven't looked back. My brother-in-law liked mine so much that he bought his own pair the next day. I don't wear socks with mine (does anyone?) so I bought a half size down from my normal shoe fit. I'm happy with the sizing. The look is sharp, the fit is comfy, I'm sold on the Olukai brand. Maybe the one negative is when they get wet there's a water mark where the water dried up to. Think of something like a high water mark on a buoy. Usually I can dabble them lightly with water and it goes away.
Comfortable but not perfect
I have seen reviews that say these shoe run large. I think this is a misconception. They run wide but they are true to your shoe size. I ordered the size a half size down from me, wore them for two weeks and found them to be too short. Returned them to my local REI for the next size up, no problem, great customer service. Shoes are comfy but wide and you tend to move a bit in the shoe. I suppose if you have wide feet it would be a perfect shoe. I love the foldable back which allows quick access. Not a real stylish shoe but a great knock around, beach type shoe. looks like it would wear well.
Hospital shoes for every day and hiking.
I got these as slippers for my knee replacement. They worked very well in the hospital and during recovery and therapy. All well now but use these around the house and out on hikes. Bought three more pairs Got outside shoes and inside shoes. They are soft soled easy on the feet wear them after shower and put beside the bed ready to go. They keep your feet warm and breath to keep them dry. Love them.
Great water shoes or day-to-day leisure wear
I bought these 7 months ago and immediately wore them on a three week trip to Central America. The shoes are great in the water to protect from rocks and such. The only downside is they can take more than 12 hours to dry. But part of that was the humidity in the area, so I won't mark them down for that. These shoes are great with or without socks, great for day-to-day wear, beachwear, and boat wear. They also squish flat so they don't take much room for packing in my carry-on bag. I like them so much that I'm buying a second pair now so I can have a wet pair and a dry pair when I'm on beach side trips. Highly recommend.
Versatile Shoe
I bought my pair from the store about 3 months ago. They look nice enough to wear to many occasions. Why just this weekend I wore them on a 9 mile hike through the Catskills where I bagged Wittenberg, Cornell and Slide mountain peaks! Even though it was cloudy and rained on us, my feet stayed dry and didn't hurt even though I walked over 42,000 rocks of various sizes! And looking at them now, you couldn't even tell that I took this through the mountains! Solid shoe, good construction, very versatile and great to have around on those occasions when you forget your hiking boots.
Exactly what I was looking for!
I had foot surgery a year ago – there’s a plate screwed to the top of my foot now. I went into my REI store and asked the person in the footwear department for shoes that I wouldn’t feel on the top of my feet and would offer good arch support and grip on the bottom. She immediately suggested the OluKai’s. I tried them on and… they were exactly what I had requested! I just finished wearing them throughout much of a two-week cruise of Greek islands, Sicily, Malta and Italy – with frequent, active shore excursions. As I told my wife, when I’m wearing these shoes my only regret is that I only have two feet!!
Runs Big but Still a Great Shoe
Wearing a pair right now and my feet are comfortable and cool. These shoes CAN run big. I've seen reviews that say they do and they don't. I suppose that also deals with the width of people's feet as well. For me, I typically wear a 10.5 shoe. With these I am comfortable in a size 9. The foot-bed is very comfortable and it is easily removable. I like to wash mine by hand with mild soap and warm water. Since I like to wear these without socks, that feature is a necessity. Comfortable walking and kicking-around shoe.
