My husband, daughter and I all love this pack!!

We got this pack when my daughter was a baby and started using it when she was 4 months old. The first couple months I wedged a blanket in front of her to help stabilize her and she regularly napped in the pack while we walked/hiked. She's a year and a half now and we both still love it! We live in Alaska in the summer and California in the winter and hike and travel all over the country. The pack is comfortable, easy to adjust and has good pockets for carrying other things. The sun/rain shelter is awesome, especially for keeping bright sun out of kiddo’s eyes. I consider this a must-have item for any outdoorsy new parents!

We love this pack!!

I have a bad back and a heavy almost three year old with a lot of medical issues that effect his temperature control. This lightweight pack not only saves my back but keeps us both cool. This pack distributes weight perfectly, even on steep hills. I can go 10+ miles on an aggressive trail without either of us needing a break. The storage is adequate for a day hike or overnight and fits a water bladder. We purchased the sun visor and rain/wind cover as well to protect him from the elements. It was hard to find as REI doesn't always carry it, but so worth it. Definitely buy this pack.

Comfort for both you and your passenger

Been using wraps/slings and other type of baby carriers for walks, short hikes, etc. with the grandkids. Wanted to be able to take a more substantial hike so I picked this carrier after reviewing several. The maiden voyage was such a success. I'm used to hiking with a 30-45 pound pack and this was just as easy. Passenger grandkid is about 30lbs -- both he and I were comfortable for the entire hike. He fell asleep for a period of time, and although there really isn't a good place for him to lay his head, he managed. Looking forward to taking him on an overnight soon - when he's potty trained ;)

Very Comfortable

We borrowed a friends Osprey and my daughter screamed 50% of the time she was in it. So when we bought ours we spent some time at the store and tried out the two Deuter carriers and this one won out. She loves it and is very comfortable, we have had some great hikes in it. Two things we got: 1. the sun shade...this is invaluable. #2 I didn't like the thin headrest the carrier came with so bought the replacement one which is thicker (our daughter falls asleep on every hike). These two things have really helped.

Best carrier, period.

This is the lightest, most comfortable. I have not tried them all, but I have tried 10+ child carriers before making this statement. I thought the lighter model would be less tough, but I have not had any problem with wear and tear. I currently carry my 30 pound 3-year-old daughter wherever I go, including our backyard at a 30 degree grade. I can usually last about an hour on flat ground before I sit down and give us both a break. I am not big either. I weigh about 145 pounds and I'm 5'10". My son is 5 months, and is ready to graduate from his front carrier to the Deuter. We'll see how the lighter guy does? A factor for purchasing is also that the chin guard is removable (for washing). My little guy drools a lot.

Excellent Kid Carrier

We took two of these on a recent trip that involved some lengthy hikes with my 1.5 y/o and 5 y/o. We were able to comfortably tote both children, shaded by the sunshade. My 5 y/o walked a lot of the hike, but when she was tired the backpack fit her still, at 42 lbs. love the kickstand at the back - helps when loading/offloading. Plenty of room to pack extras in the backpack. Very pleased!!!

Seriously Awesome Pack!

My husband and I did a fair amount of hiking before having our son. Nothing too crazy, but usually just enough terrain to necessitate a hiking pack for taking our toddler out now. At 14 months old now, we hope to really get him out in nature this summer, so we needed a good hiking pack. We decided to get a Deuter Pack, specifically the Kid Comfort Air. There are only a few brands that have name credibility as far as hiking packs for children go, but Deuter is top of the list and has amazing ratings across the board. Why did I select this pack? Primarily, comfort for myself and my son. This pack is adjustable in every aspect, offers lumbar support for the adult, mesh lining so both you and your little one stay cool, great padded straps and padded straps and seat for your little one. I particularly loved the chin/head rest for the baby/toddler that's riding along. The seat offers a five-point harness to keep your little one safe and snug, and is wonderfully adjustable to keep them comfortable. The pack has some great extras: good storage, offering multiple pockets and storage spaces, loops to hook items on to, a kickstand to assist with setting your child down while in the pack, and my personal favorite, foot straps for your child to rest their feet in (my guy loves to try to stand in the pack, or re-center his gravity by just flexing his legs.) The side-entry option makes it incredibly simple to get your child into the pack. Within a matter of seconds I had my son in the pack, strapped in, and adjusted properly. The pack is recommended for children that can sit up unassisted and hold their head up. The weigh limit should not exceed 45lbs. The pack itself is incredibly light, at only 6lbs. It easily folds up for storage and transport. The two handles make it easy to both carry, and assist with lifting to pull the pack on to your back (though, I've found that sitting on a bench or seat makes this infinitely easier to put on when alone.) The pack is shockingly sturdy. The material is easy to clean, anti-chaf, durable, and comes in good, gender-neutral colors. The frame is also incredibly sturdy. There are several accessories that can be purchased for this pack, too. A sun shade and weather shade are both options, which we will likely purchase in the future. Depending on where you're purchasing, this pack will run you around $240. A fairly standard price for a good pack, and in my opinion worth every penny. Overall, this pack is five stars in my book. A great, worthwhile purchase that will get us out into nature and hiking comfortably! Thanks to Deuter for a wonderful product!

Lightweight, lean, and Sturdy

I was looking for something that I could use on day hikes with my 18mo old daughter and this was perfect! I chose to buy the sunroof separately because I didn't like the Osprey's sunroof with the mesh on the sides. It felt it was too constraining for the child inside. I can't imagine sitting in a chair surrounded by mesh when I'm supposed to be enjoying the outdoors. The sunroof for this carrier is much nicer less view restrictive. Overall, this pack distributes weight well and is comfortable. If you want a lightweight pack that's easy to use, this is it. Cons- If you like to carry a lot of things with you, this pack won't have enough storage. To me this was a plus because it doesn't have extras I don't need. Also, the pack says it can only carry a child that's 40lbs max and online in some sites it says 48.

worth every cent

I wrestled through a lot of packs before settling with the Deuter Kid Comfort Air. My little chunk norris already weight 20 pounds at 5 months so I had to ditch my front back and move him to the backpack. I wish would have done it sooner. So much easier on the back and shoulders. Easy adjustments make the pack fit snug and secure. Can switch between my wife and myself quickly. Most important, my kid loves it.

Awesome pack!

Since buying this pack i have gone on 2 hikes. The pack distributes the weight very well. My daughter seems very comfortable in it as well. I did use the canopy on one of the hikes due to rain and it kept my daughter dry!
