1,000 Miles later...

I walked the Camino de Santiago in these, starting in France, totaling over 1,000 miles walking in them. No one has put these to the test more than me. I was looking for three things: lightweight, durable, and waterproof. Let me say this: they performed amazingly in all respects except... they are not waterproof. Not even water resistant. From the very beginning, an early morning walk through some dewy grass meant wet socks for most of the day. I don't even want to talk about what happened in light rain, let alone in a spanish downpour. The things even have a little tag that says "waterproof" on the side, which should have quotes around it, and a ;) emoticon. It is a real shame, because this is a beautiful boot, and I would buy it again and again except for this major flaw. They are durable, handsome, light, with a good sole. But they are unacceptably non-waterproof. Did I mention they were not waterproof?

Nice light boots with good support

These lace to the toe and work well for people with low volume feet. My arches and width are normal, but my instep is low, so a lot of shoes are too roomy. These allow adjustment for a secure fit. The heel is very snug and secure and feels well-planted when walking. The insole provides decent if not great support. A more robust insole may be in order for people with high arches, for example. The sole is quite flexible but stiff enough to provide protection for hiking over rough terrain. The tongue is gusseted to keep out debris. These boots are best suited to hiking and light backpacking. In terms of fit, I would say these are just slightly shorter and narrower than a normal size 12. I have a pair of Asolo approach shoes in size 12, and the fit is very similar, but the Trinitys are a wee bit shorter in the toe. Haven't had a chance for any serious hiking in them yet, but they feel good so far.

Thinking about buying a second pair

I wear these boots for causal hiking around the Mount Shasta area. These are the first boots I purchased that I haven't had to break in... amazing. I believe this boot is made for narrow feet, and because the laces extend more toward the toe of the boot, I can lace a more secure fitting. These boots feel so good, I'm thinking of buying another pair.

Think I've found my boots

The most comfortable boots I ever owned were Timberlands purchased in late 2006, and they lasted 5 years before water came in and the soles wore out. Sadly, newer iterations of those boots don't last nearly as long, and I've been trying to find another pair of good, 5 year boots. If these hold out, they should be them. I tried Vasque, Asolo, and Keen and decided to go with these Asolos for a 2 week trip to the West coast. The Keen Verdis felt like great boots except I could feel something protruding a bit through the sole on the right boot. Loved the Vasques, but the full leather is just too hot for TN in the summer. And they're on the heavy side. So about the Asolos... Carrying a 25 pound pack through 3 airports there and back turned out pretty well, no issues with support. Hiked 3 miles down Mt. Tam and 3 back up as well as another 6 mile around Multnomah Falls with a 100L Camelbak day pack both times, and the Asolos were very comfy. These boots feel best on dirt but did fine on rocks. I didn't slip on any wet rocks, but I was going easy because the tread is not very aggressive and I didn't want to find out how they handle on wet rock the hard way. I especially like the bounce in the soles, they feel rubbery and land really well. No issues with overheating or water getting in while going through a few inches of puddle or stream. I'm not used to boots without hooks at the top, and the lacing system of these boots has taken some getting used to. However, I enjoy being able to adjust all the way down, makes for a very secure fit. I really hope these boots hold out, partly because it's so hard for me to find boots I really love, and partly because they're so good without much break in. Need a lightweight, breathable boot here in TN in the summer. In that respect these trump my old boots no question. More than twice the price of my old ones, but hopefully I'll get my 5 years out of them.

Very well made, but may run small

Very well made. Comfortable. Firm soles. Good arch. But it seems to me that they may run a little small. I wear 10 1/2 and they seem a little tight. I'm hoping they loosen up a little.
