A good solid shoe

I started rock climbing last year, but am still in the beginner/novice stages. I've done most of my climbing outside, but have started to do more indoors. My challenge with climbing shoes is that I have feet that are slightly wider than average with high arches. I read all the reviews online before going to the store and thought for sure I would end up with the La Sportiva Nago shoes. I tried those on and liked them a lot at first impression. However, wanting to make sure I tried on all the options, I went through pretty much every pair and style they had in stock. When I tried these on, I realized this would be the shoe to beat, and nothing compared. It was the slightly higher arch and the somewhat wider toe box that really felt good. They are sensitive enough for my needs (not too aggressive) and my feet don't hurt after climbing. Again, I am still only climbing no more difficult than a 5.8 route, so I am not doing anything terribly complex.

Great shoe

I started off with the Evolv Elektra and they were terrible. I'm not sure if the sizing was off or what but they didn't fit my feet correctly at all. It actually made climbing very painful and not enjoyable. Once I got these Scarpa's I progressed quickly and with no more pain! I would recommend these but I would also recommend that you go to your local shop to actually try different brands on. Don't buy online blindly like I did. I do agree with the other reviewer when they say these shoes are for a slimmer foot and feel true to size. I didn't size down either. I typically wear a 6.5 or a 7 and I ended up getting these shoes in 7 and they fit perfectly.

Beautiful Climbing Shoe

I am fairly new to climbing but have sporadically done it both indoors and outdoors over the years. I tried several different pairs of shoes on, as well as climbed in a variety of rentals before finally buying my own pair. When I tried these on, I felt like I had finally landed! The things I love most about this shoe: It conforms to my foot perfectly (I have a long, narrow foot) but is sturdy and has the right support in the right areas. The laces are also a great feature or making the shoes more adjustable if I want. Some people think laces are annoying because they want to be able to tear them on and off at any given moment. But honestly, it's not that big of a deal. One of my favorite features are these magical little "slits" that make it so there is some flexibility in that spot where the knuckle on my big toe would normally be cramped up against the top inside of the shoe.. This has been a source of pain for me in every other pair of climbing shoes until now.

Pretty awesome FIRST shoe

I have only been climbing for about three months but on average I am at the gym 5 days a week. I am so addicted! Purchasing these shoes have drastically helped my climbing..but anything beats the gym rentals, really. The first time I climbed with them it was as if the foot holds and wall features came alive and were totally useful to me. Also, awesome for heel hooks- no pain, and no slip off. The one thing I will say about these is that they are just not sticky enough... I can already tell that as I progress I will need a more aggressive shoe and one that has some better grip. But that's exactly what is great about these... not aggressive which makes it easy to get used to climbing with out the pain. I am an 8.5 in street shoe size and I would say these are true to size. I squeezed my foot into a 7.5 and Im happy I did. Makes it so much easier to find and keep your grip on the wall. But since I did downsize the first few gym sessions in these did leave my feet hurting but since then they rarely cause any problems. I can be climbing for upwards of three hours before I am experiencing abnormal discomfort. When shopping I did try on quite a few different shoes but found these to be the best fit for my feet. There were shoes that seemed to be for wider feet (evolv) and some that were made for very slender feet (la sportiva) but I would say I have average feet width wise and these were really a perfect fit. So I hope this helps!

Love them!

I am an intermediate climber of 3 years now. I have used gym rentals and had Evolv Elektras then upgraded to these guys. I have had them for a year now. They rock! I have a narrow heel so my favorite part is the back "sucks" my heel in and keeps it solidly in place. I can do some awesome heel hooks with them. Overall, the rubber is solid and is still in good shape after a year of abuse. I mostly climb indoors, doing up to v4's and 5.11a's. When I have taken them outside they have been amazing compared to my Elektras. A huge step up for helping out my foot work. I am pretty small so I had to get these in the smallest size my local REI offered. They fit really well when I am climbing a lot, like 5 days a week, whereas when I only climb like once a week they get very uncomfortable very fast. If you are not planning on climbing often, then get these a little bigger than your normal shoe size, your feet will thank you. Overall a great shoe, love them to death! Really good for rope climbs and sufficient for bouldering at a low level. Go get them!

Good first shoe - slight issues with the soles

This came recommended to me by a helpful climbing dude at my local REI right as I was getting into climbing. These have been a good first shoe (have had them for about 1.5 years). It's not too aggressive, so, fairly comfortable for a newb climber. Also, they're pretty stinkin' cute. I wear a size 6 in normal shoes and got the 37's - pretty true to size. It will still be tight the first few months of wearing them. But tight means good fit for the wall! One problem has been some pre-mature sole wear - I was climbing about 1 - 2 times a week for the first 6 months, and I noticed the sole had....shifted, like it had started to slide off, but the rubber hasn't been fully worn through. This has happened on both shoes and it looks like they'll need to be re-soled (can do this for about $40 though). As I've progressed to climbing really regularly (2 - 3 times per week), these have started to stretch a little bit more, so tightening the laces properly has become key. Pros: comfortable (as much as a climbing shoe can be), doesn't break the bank, pretty good grip on the wall Cons: definite stretch (if wearing regularly), pre-mature sole issues TL; DR: good shoe for the price.

Started great, then just got too uncomfortable

I've had these shoes for a year now. When I bought them, I just started rock climbing regularly, and they fit great. So snug and comfortable that I could run in them. After a year, my toes are in pain, and maybe my feet grew. They're no longer comfortable, and while I can still climb in them great, I can barely take a step in them.

Love these shoes!

I love these shoes! I bought them a half size smaller knowing they would stretch. After a short break in period the fit is perfect and they are comfortable to wear for several hours at a time.

Great shoe for beginners and upward

I got these as my first pair of climbing shoes as I was tired of paying the rental fee. Have worn them for about 6 months now. They were "comfortable" from the start (as comfortable as climbing shoes should be) and have molded to my feet since. I tape a few of my toes due to the uncomfortable rubbing of the seam where the rubber meets the leather, but this is not an inconvenience to me and it doesn't bother me once taped. I boulder and top rope/lead in these, and even leading on 5.11 routes in the gym these are more than capable. I have also worn them outdoors on two long days of trad climbing and they were comfortable the whole time and I was able to get my toes on those tiny bits of rocks in the Gunks. Solid shoe, and I don't see myself needing anything more advanced until I start doing a lot of overhung routes with tiny feet. Small note: when I first bought them I remember the heel pinched in and caused a good amount of pain on one foot. I'm glad I took the salesman's advice and tried them out anyway, as that subsided within the first few days of climbing. For reference, I have narrow feet and very narrow heels, so the lacing is great for me.
