This footprint will help preserve the life of your tent bottom. We have used it for 5 camping trips, before rinsing it off at home to discover we had been using it upside down the whole time, even through 2 rainstorms. Turns out that the shiny side is NOT the waterproof coated side, but rather the dull-looking side is. (So you need to put it shiny-side down touching the ground, dull side up touching the tent bottom). The orange tabs help to match to the orange straps on the tent itself. Also note that the side of the footprint shown in the photo (with the orange tab sewn on "top" indicates the waterproof coated side.) The footprint fits well back into the original pouch if you remember to fold it into thirds at some point. And it stows inside the tent bag nicely.

Instructions Are Poor

If you bother to read the instructions, you will find Instruction 3 refers to attaching footprint clips to the D-rings on the tent. There are no footprint clips so this should be ignored. Additionally, for those--like us--having problems determining which is the coated side, per the REI staff person, this is the side with the little white label. The hems are folded to this side so, if this were an article of clothing, this would be the inside. Functionally it works fine.

A really smart thing to get.

Thought we would get by with a large mat we had. It worked OK, protected the tent floor, but was very large and took up too much room in the vehicle. Cheap tarps aren't fitted to your tent and are not as strong. These are great for figuring out exactly where to pitch your tent, they have holes in exactly the right place for the poles. Just for kicks, we took it out in the back yard, and figured out how to set up the footprint and rain fly, then set up the tent under the erected rain fly - simulating setting up the tent in a rain event. Try that with a general purpose cheap tarp from Wally World!

Good fit, ease of use could be better

It's a footprint, the most important thing is the fit, and it fits the Kingdom 6 well. The grommet tabs are color coded, so it makes it easy to line up with the K6, except for one thing. The directions say to set the coated side down, but it's not obvious which side is coated.

Just makes sense if you own the REI Kingdom 6

My REI Kingdom 6's floor tarp was starting wear out (tiny holes) so I decided to just make the smart purchase and get the fooprint. Boy, did it help me immensely! That day that I bought the footprint, we went camping and there was a predicted thunderstorm that night. The storm came, and my tent stayed dried on the inside. Without the footprint , I suspect that a little wetness would have entered, but with the footprint, my family and I were fine and dry. It does what it's suppose to do, and I'm very pleased.

makes set up easy

If for no other reason then it makes choosing a spot much easier then dragging the tent around.(the footprint is the same size as the tent bottom ) the first time i set it up was on wet grass, the bottom of the footprint was wet but the bottom of tent was dry just shook it off and it was dry. much easerey than hanging the tent to dry.Wouldnt be without it!The stuff bag could be abit larger.

protects and keeps floor drier

I camped in my Kingdom 6 for 13 days, with heavy rain fall on half those days and light rainfall on the other half. I was very glad to have the footprint to protect the bottom of the tent from pointy objects, tell me exactly how much room I needed in a tight space and to keep the floor of the tent dry on all but the two worst days. It turned out I had a couple of depressions under the tent where water accumulated during downpours. I finally put a permeable indoor outdoor carpet I had brought for the Garage and had no more problems. Get a coupon or discount to reduce the price but even at full cost, its worth it to protect the tent and make you more comfortable.

bought this to go with the Kingdom 6 tent. works as well as it should. amazingly, it fits back in the bag it came in!! as well as into the kingdom 6 tent. My only complaint is that i had to come onto REI.com to see which side was which to set it up.

ok footprint but not much more

This is a good footprint for the tent, but if you want to use the vestibule, you'll still need a tarp under it. We considered returning this and decided we'll stick with it as a little extra ground never hurts, but we're still getting a tarp to cover under the vestibule area. What would be great is if there was an extension to this that could cover under the vestibule. A few extra square feet and would make a lot of difference in terms of not needing a larger tarp.

Worth the investment!

If you are going to buy the Kingdom 6, then you should invest the money in the footprint. Protects your tent and helps keep it clean. Color coded straps match the tent itself for easy set up.
