Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good basic collapsable bottle I bought this at an outdoor store while looking for products to take on short backpacking trip. I was hesistant to spend a lot on a hydration system as I was used to just carrying extra water bottles, so I ended up with the basic 2L Platy Bottle. So far (2 trips) I'm impressed with the bottle's ability to hold up inside my backpack. The only negative I've seen so far is getting it completely dry - I had to use a hairdryer for about 5 mins (on no heat) as it wasn't drying in my sink's drain rack. I think if I could do it over again I would have paid the extra $ for the pack that opens up (big zip?) so that it would be easier to dry/clearn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ultralight Backpacker's Friend I have had this bottle for many years and use it when I am packing lighter than usual. I use this with their hose kit to make an ultralight bladder that I then use as a camp reservoir by hanging from a tree when I get set up. It is a very versatile setup and can be modified to do anything needed. For better all around versatility, use a hole punch on the non-welded sections at the very bottom of the reservoir (they look like they were made for this purpose) and run some paracord through it and now you can hang the bladder anywhere you want (at camp, in your pack, etc.). This is a very versatile product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lasts long time I bought this about 4 years ago for weekend day hikes averaging 3 hours. It works great and is still in good shape with no leaks. You have to leave it puffed open in order to get all the water to dry out so if it is still wet, you don't want to flatten it. Mine is starting to look worn so I think I better replace it before it punctures. You can see on the top of the photo where it looks creased and worn. Not bad for four years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid accessory! I bought this for stashing extra water on a 5-day AT hike. Pros: no plastic taste, rolls up to small size when empty, survived in my fully-packed backpack and being tossed around camp without any issues at all. Cons: Kind of hard to wash/dry because of small opening, also kind of hard to fill in shallow or slow-moving water. Honestly these are great to have on hand because they allow you to carry a bunch of water when you need it, but they take up only a small amount of space when empty. I've been meaning to get a few in a smaller size as well for my dog to carry in his pack!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable I purchased one 16 months ago after I read many reviews regarding the great taste of the water after being stored in a Platypus. I am an avid day hiker and this original bladder has been in a pack for most of the past 16 months! I just wash it once every two or three weeks and filled it back up with fresh water. I took it and a second one on a three week trip to Alaska late last summer. They take up minimal room in your carry on baggage when traveling. I have not experienced a single leak after 16 months continuous use. Great product which I have recommended to several friends who have now purchased your products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A very pleasant surprise I recieved this as a Christmas gift a few years ago from my sister and until I used it I didn't think much of it. Since then I have been convinced that it is one of the best bottles/hydration systems you can buy. My first time out with it I just used it as a back up water source on a car trip. Then I started taking it when backpacking for extra water storage with little weight. A while ago I got the hydration hose and when my camelbak bladder was stolen, my platypus became my primary system. My favorite thing is that with multiple bottles you can just switch the hose from one bottle to the other, pack the first down small and get back on the trail. The only downside is the small opening size, but if you are only going to use clean water and dry it out between uses you shouldn't have a problem. I have used it backpacking, day hiking, and snowboarding for four years and haven't had one issue.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for backpacking I have two of these for backpacking and day hiking. They work great, take up little space when empty, never leaked, don't slosh in my pack if I squeeze the air out. However, nearly impossible to fill these from a lake, pond, or stream pool without using another bottle, so I need to carry a rigid bottle in addition to these. Any water bottle you buy at the supermarket will work, I prefer the 1.5 liter size with small cap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The very best bottle around for the price point! I've bought many bottles in the past, but these are simply the best around. You'll wear out, before one of these does. I use them for storage of water, collection of water, filtration and even personal hygiene. They fold into next to nothing, when not in use, and stand nicely when full. I always carry at least two of them with me when on an outing of any sort. This is a durable product, supported by REI long term, and offered to the members at a reasonable price point. You can't go wrong with these.

Are these frozable ?

Asked by: Steve in CA
Steve, I have had good luck freezing water in the 70 oz bottle. I do not over fill (leave space for water to expand), and I lay the bottle "flat" in the freezer.  This allows a bubble across the top to allow for expansion as the fluid freezes.

Is this compatible with my Platypus gravity filter? Can I filter directly into it?

Asked by: jaeaston
Although it will not connect directly to this bottle the clean hose on the gravity filter can be used to fill up this bottle.

Can I fill the Platypus with hot water to warm up my sleeping bag for snow camping trips? Will it leak?

Asked by: Kate B
Platypus bottles will withstand hot liquid but they offer absolutely no insulation; so the risk of burning yourself is high.

Can you pack wine or bourbon in these bladders?

Asked by: fixin2b1
You can transport any liquid in this bladder but you may risk picking up a plastic taste to your beverage. Platypus makes a wine specific bladder you might wish to consider:
