Not a bummer
I have been trying to increase my mileage on the bike. I have a mountain bike that I use on trails on the weekend, but during the week it is my commuter. Getting to the mountain is occasionally too much of a hassle sometimes. So, in order to keep in shape I get on the bike lanes around my apartment. I have started getting a sore bum ever since I have been getting into the 35/40 miles range. Ever since I started using this my sore bum has been much better and I do not have to take as many rest days between saddle times. I read a few reviews where some stated the menthol was not to their liking. I did, however, that is a personal preference.
"Cooling Effect" - Love it or hate it.
Chamois Butt'r comes in two types: plain & "Eurostyle". Plain is, well, plain. Eurostyle has a menthol-like cooling effect. I tried the Eurostyle. Love the anti-chafe qualities. Dislike the "cooling effect". It just feels weird to me. Will choose plain Chamois Butt'r from now on. I would recommend a chamois creme to all riders, but I personally don't like the the Eurostyle because of the cooling effect. It's a bit like Plain & Peanut M&M's: both are good, but I greatly prefer one to the other.
I'm now hooked on butt creams
This is a medium-thick consistency butt cream with additional soothing agents (witch hazel, menthol, aloe) that provide a tingling feeling to your posterior. Some people may feel turned off by that but I prefer it. I rub this into the chamois pad on my bike shorts before any ride that is going to be longer than 40 miles. So far I've done several 40, 50 and 60 miles rides, one 90 mile ride, and my first century ride while using this cream and it has definitely kept me more comfortable in the saddle. My one complaint would be that it doesn't seem to last the entire ride on 100 mile rides and this jar is too big to take along for touching-up. This is the only type of butt cream I've used and although I like it, I do plan to try others for comparison.
Great product with one warning
Great lubricant. Been using it for years. However, I do have one warning. If you use toilet paper to apply DO NOT put the used toilet paper in your toilet and flush. The butter causes the paper to clog the drain. I am 99% certain that is why I have already spent two hours this morning trying to unclog my toilet. I would recommend putting the used tp in a paper bag and throwing in the waste basket.
Don't Lose Your Cool in the Saddle
Eurostyle takes Chamois Butt'r somewhere new with a clean cool feeling that makes your ride pleasant. I received a few sample packs at a local race, and now I am a happy customer for both of their products. I pick Eurostyle for my intense (interval/threshold) training days because it keeps me cool in the saddle when I am turning the motor at full speed. Folks, this is the good stuff at a modest price.
Tingly...
Accidentally purchased the "Eurostyle" for a 1/2 Ironman... and it was definitely a surprise when the cold tingling feeling kicked in. After the initial surprise, it was very pleasant to have that cooling feeling during a rather hot race. Not a bad product.
Best of the choices here
My rides are typically 40-60 miles and this is a great choice. Last longer than ASSOS and is a bit cheaper per ounce. Can't go wrong here.
Excellent chamois cream for long rides
I like this chamois cream because it is water soluble so clean up is easy. It works very well for long rides, especially with a lot of climbing. I use this mainly if I am doing ride of 50+ miles with 5,000 feet or more of climbing. I have used it for 200-mile rides with 20,000 feet of climbing and it lasts all day without any problems with chafing. I like the tub rather than the tube because I can easily get all the cream out of the tub. When using the tube I have to cut the tube open to get the last bit out of it.
Fantastic Cream
This cream (along with another product) is the answer to my cycling prayers. It's thick, so it provides the comfort I need to help prevent saddle sores. I'm never going back to the tubes again.
keeps your bits from chaffing
this is my second can of this, it works great, if you work in a hot industrial enviroment where you walk alot this saves your legs. highly recommended.
