Well, it's been a year

Wow, a year has passed since I bought this. I had my doubts... .........The Brooks B17 is business class. The Flyer is first class. Everything else is coach. Right after getting this prize home, I used the rapid break-in method, soaking it in hot water and riding for 15 minutes to impress it with my sit bones. Soon after that, I rode it 50 miles on a trail ride from Chehalis to Raymond, Washington. I went over some rough stuff and never felt like I wanted to burn it as I did every non leather saddle I've ever had. ..........Yep, it's heavy, with leather, springs and steel rails, but it's working every moment you're riding, unlike every unsprung saddle. Even on asphalt, when I placed my fingers in the springs, I could feel them move, working to make the rough places plain. A suspension seat post might do that, but a plastic/foam/gel saddle would never conform as well as Brooks leather. Many saddles mention sit bone support, when what many of us need is sit bone relief. Leather does that after the break-in (see above). This seat doesn't push back against your sit bones. It conforms smoothly to the contours of your anatomy, working with you rather than against you. Tailwinds!

I'd love to use my 20% off coupon to purchase this saddle, but REI doesn't carry the women's model. Why not? We ride bikes, too.

Comfort right out of the box!

I purchased the aged Flyer from a LBS to add to my Novara Express. I am 6' 240# and the Brooks Flyer was pure comfort on mile 1. This is an investment and I read every review I could find prior to spending this kind of money on a saddle but I am very happy and glad I have it. The aged version is breaking in fast but it does need some adjusting to get the perfect fit. Take your tools with you on your ride because just a slight adjustment can make a world of difference. After a few height and pitch adjustments I am thrilled with this saddle. I will never ride anything else. I bought this for RAGBRAI and I am looking forward to 471.1 miles on this saddle!

Excellent, comfortable saddle

I have this saddle on a Cannondale T800. It is the fourth Brooks saddle I have owned in the last 38 years (Brooks Pro, another B17, and B67). They have all been excellent. This particular saddle took a little longer to break in, even with regular applications of Proofide as directed. After about 450 miles it has been great. I have tried other saddles such as Specialized BG and they just don't measure up, although initially they might be slightly more comfortable. Once the break in stage is over, the Brooks cannot be surpassed. For me, the advantages far outweigh the slight weight penalty.

Brooks Rock

I bought the Flyer and glad I chose the springs-I used it on my Cannonade Quick and now on my Felt hybrid Speed. At the time there was not a women's option, but the seat has formed well to my contours and became more comfortable year after year. I treat it with the Brooks saddle conditioner as recommended and it is still beautiful. I ride minimum 30 miles a ride with bike shorts and as a female knows-the rub can be worse than the ride-this Brooks has kept me intact.

No break-in needed. Mileage may vary

I am restoring an old Raleigh road bike, and clearly a classic Brooks leather saddle was what was needed. This is the same saddle as the B-17 commonly used on road bikes, but with added springs. The springs are heavy, but they do add some comfort over bumps. They are not appropriate for competitive cycling because they tend to start bouncing when you are pedaling fast. The usual knock on Brooks saddles is that they take hundreds of miles to break in, during which they mold to your bone structure and are the most comfortable saddle out there, even though they have no padding. In my case, it was comfortable from the start, and is getting better. The leather is nice, the frame seems to be built like a tank. Follow the instructions for caring for it and breaking it in, and it should work well for anyone.

Comfortable Out of the Box

Okay... It is expensive. I was a bit worried about the 'break in' period and my sit bones. The flyer was comfortable right out of the box and suits my more upright riding style. The springs take the sharpness out of road bumps and a little lubrication took the squeaks out of the springs. The saddle looks like it will be hot but it has been very comfortable at 80+ degrees. Bottom line... it is worth every penny.

Perfect saddle for general riding

I never really enjoyed long distance cycling until I got my Brooks Champion Flyer. Very short break-in period, around 100 miles. I ended up putting about 1500 miles on it last summer, including a couple of centuries and a 4 day, 325 mile tour (DALMAC). I took most of the winter off, but just hopped on the bike again in mid March. This seat is just as comfortable as ever. Bottom line: you won't find a more comfortable saddle for commuting, road riding/touring, or mountain biking.

Old design but still good & comfortable

Around 25 years ago, the saddle manufacturers started making padded and lightweight saddles that were designed for somebody's else's sitting anatomy-not mine. This Brooks saddle was very heavy when compared to the new one's. The bike shops got rid of the Brooks saddles. I saw three in the bike shop and bought the cheapest for [$]. I broke it in and it was so comfortable and went back to the shop and bought the other 2 Brooks at bargain prices. Now it is coming back. The Brooks saddles conformed to my anatomy. I also bought the Proofhide that the bike shop was glad to get rid of.I have tried other modern lightweight saddles - gel and whatever but none fit my anatomy. I always wondered whose butt was used in the modern designs. My cycling friends wondered the same.

Upgrade to "rear" suspension

This is my third Brooks saddle over some 30 years on three different bikes. Nothing beats leather for soaking up minor bumps. I wanted to try the springs, since I have taken up riding on a lot of bike trails with broken and marginal pavement. Great "rear" suspension, at a fraction of the cost of a new mountain bike.
