Wow! This is different.

I'm used to the "old fashioned" kind of grip strenghtener. Just a triangle with a spring you collapse and release. How simple. The grip master is sturdily built. Some plastic but all moving parts are metal. Neatest part is it allows you to exercise individual fingers or all at once and still get grip exercise. Boy, I cant do 2 sets of 10 reps with my 2 smallest fingers although I can with the rest. Think of holding individual strings down on the fret board on the neck of a guitar with individual fingers. Kudos for including a thumb excerciser too. Must be done separately. See instructions. Should be called hand finger thumb strenghthener. Not just for grips anymore.

Great for training grip strength!

Mostly writing this in response to the 1 star review. The number of rock climbers (myself included) who swear by this product goes to show the 1 star reviewer is D U M dum! Go work on your alpha male complex on your own time. This is a great product which I've had for year and really holds up over time! I keep it at my desk at the office and use it daily!

Great for warming up and cooling down

This thing is advertised all wrong. It doesn't help your grip become stronger so much as help induce better circulation before and after climbing. Nothing is worse then showing up to the first route or problem with fingers that feel like lazy sausages. The Gripmaster comes in real handy for those long drives home after thrashing yourself on the rock for a few hours or days. It helps your fingers recuperate faster so you can get back to training at the gym asap. The best thing about this version above all others is that the fingertips of the Gripmaster pro are padded in rubber whereas in the other versions, they are just plastic. The rubber helps to grip it better and feels more comfortable. Remember, if you are using this for climbing, squeeze this thing with your fingers flat so that your joints are level with the pads of your fingers (think of your fingers making an upside down 'L' and not a backwards 'C'. I see so many people using this the wrong way and complaining that it's too easy to squeeze. Remember, climbing is different then playing guitar.

Good For Junior High Kids

I am not a climber, but a tough guy. I can close the COC#2 eight times, I can do one handed pulls, and I can crush bottlecaps between my fingers. Let me tell you that there is nothing heavy about this. I returned it after I crushed it 100 times without getting tired (using crush, contact, and fingertip technique). I also gave it to my weak, obese friend, who closed it and laughed at it. This thing is for people with an average grip (100-120 lbs of force), not real athletes. It's really a disappointment and a joke. In sports and combat, especially climbing, your hands are your life, don't rely on this to get you anywhere!

Have owned for years, still going strong. Great piece of equipment. Just mainly here to offset that completely narcissistic 1 star review.

Improved strength in just one week...

After just one week of use, my forearm and grip strength was noticeably improved. There are a variety of exercises you can do with this, including a whole-hand grip, a thumb-forefinger grip, and others. Now I keep this in my car and use it during my commute. My climbing has already greatly improved.

Disregard other negative reviews

Negative reviewers fail to recommend anything better. And, I can't find anything better than this. It's perfect for training and for recuperating circulation after a long day fly fishing, shooting, climbing, etc. Only negative is that there should be stippling,or some sort of texturizing for the grips- the smooth one is fine but it could upgrade.

The Gripper

I bought one previously, I wanted to see if my hand strength was up to par. I bought the model with the highest tension/ resistance, after getting into a routine of using the device Every other day, I heard of an older neighbor neighbor who was recovering from a stroke. He was having trouble with his whole arm, I gave that first grip device he appeared to be showing ssome progress. He is a motivated individual and is still active I bought this device again, so I guess I rather like these devices . I have four out of five because I anticipate some day the will be an updated design that I will gravitate towards.

excellent

I bought this while at gym is closed for COVID19 to help keep my grip and forearms relatively strong. It has just enough tension to not be easy, but still be doable. There are so many ways to hold it for strengthening/ maintaining various grips. Constant squeezing or pumping the spring. I’d imagine it’s a good pre climb warmup as well.

Great Product

I'm just here to dilute the meat-head's review. I picked this up as a bit of a rehab tool for my hand after tearing a tendon a couple months ago. This is giving me a lot of confidence in being able to test my hand's ability and eventually get back into climbing. I will certainly continue to use this for some light training and warm-ups for climbing
