Fragile
Yes I have bought three pairs of your Maui Jim brand sun glasses you guys make an awesome lens. Now don't get me wrong here I love the glasses butt It is twice now i have broke the bridge just cleaning them.I have watched videos on how too.but for some reason that nose piece breaks right at the screw hole.my other complaint is i can't fricking just buy that piece to fix them there like brand new still.at $214+ a pair you would think I'd be able to.guess that's how you make your money huh.no i would not recomend then to any body who is active forgetful or clumsy.your setting your self up for disaster.
Fantastic glasses
I'm confused about some of the negative comments. I have been wearing these glasses for more than 10 years- they are better than anything else I have tried. They are my primary mountaineering/glacier glasses. Like any lightweight sunglasses, of course you can't sit on them or otherwise beat them up- if you take reasonable care of them they will last years. I have used them for everything from driving around town to climbing at over 6000 meters in Bolivia. They provide plenty of coverage and sun protection. I used them in New Zealand when the ozone hole was large (i.e. huge UV levels)- no issues whatsoever. They probably won't fit everybody (I have a large head), but that's to be expected. Highly recommended.
Outstanding Quality Sunglasses
Maui Jim is the best! I've had my 2nd pair of Ho'Okipa for years and really took care of them. Lens is outstanding. I retired as an engineer and was out in the field most of the time. Polarized lens works wonders with glare and protects my eyes from direct sunlight all day long. The not so good part is, I just lost them today. I dropped it while taking off my hoody sweatshirt in the parking lot. After reviewing the lot CCTV camera, man parked by me picked it up and secretly put it in his car while I was busy looking for it inside my car. I need a new pair, but I'm concern if the new ones are still the same design and still made in Japan.
Excellent all around sunglasses
These are excellent for tennis, especially with the Blue Hawaii lenses providing contrast and good protection. Also, nice for all around wear. Lightweight and yet they stay on well.
Problems - very fragile
I love Maui Jim sunglasses - best lenses on the planet. However I've had real problems with these glasses and another one of their frameless style glasses. In both cases, the lenses begin to crack after just a few weeks and the arm screws keep coming out on their own. Additionally, keeping these lenses clean and smudge free is a pain - they won't just wipe down with a microfiber cloth. They consistently need soap and water. Thankfully REI has been fantastic about exchanging them. I went back to a beefier model (the Peahi's) which I'm sure will be far sturdier.
Great wrap-around style with new Blue Hawaii lenses
This is my 4th pair of Maui Jim rimless sunglasses -- but my first with the new Grilamid frame material and Blue Hawaii lenses. My initial reaction is that they look and feel great. The Ho'okipa frame shape is classic Maui Jim: Wide profile with gentle curves and a slight wraparound. Compared to Maui Jim's titanium and nylon frames, Grilamid feels stronger but also stiffer (if I'd known that they don't fold up quite as tightly as my nylon "Lighthouse" frames with the same base curve, I might not have selected this style -- they barely fit into the provided case -- but I'm sure I'll get used to it) The Blue Hawaii lenses theoretically have the same color rendering as the neutral gray lenses, but to me, the view feels brighter and the colors even more accurate.
I love these glasses!!!!!
I bought these because the nose piece on my coyote sunglasses broke. I loved those glasses. the ho'okipa was the closet I could find to match the style of my coyote glasses. At first I thought the glasses felt really flimsy for the price , but after wearing them for a month , I realize that I mistook flexibility for weakness. The ho'okipa are light weight ,and fit my larger size head and nose perfectly . I also like that the nose piece isn't made out of the standard metal wire and rubber pad that seems to always bend out of shape or break.
Love the sunglasses
After my dog chewed up my 10-year-old pair of sunglasses, I ordered the same ones again. I like them that much. And since only the lenses were damaged by my dog, I’ll probably get the old pair fixed. I really do like these sunglasses and living with bright sun almost everyday, sunglasses are a must-wear item. I do have two problems. I ordered bronze lenses and I see that I got the neutral gray lenses. It’s not enough of a problem for me to send them back. Also, I could use some tips on adjusting the frames. I’ve watched videos and am slowly getting them to fit better, but some tips from Maui Jim’s would be helpful.
Hookipa owner since 1990 - Got my first pair in Maui, HI while on VaCa
I absolutely love this style. I believe this is my 8 or 9th pair of the Hookipa's. Got my first pair in Maui, in the early 90's. They are light, feel great, good for all activities - driving, sports, fishing, beach, and so on. Right now I have 3 pairs - one I wear, one in my car and a backup in my gun safe. I live in FL and these tame the sun just perfect. Last thing, the MJ lenses in the Hookipa's are super, and very scratch resistant and light weight. I have 2 with bronze lenses and the rest are grey. Of the first 6 pairs I had, either the frames or temples broke, and one of my Labrador's chewed up a pair too.
Polarized MAUI JIM HANALEI Sunglasses Black Frame
This is a complaint review. First, I love these sunglasses. However, I dropped them on grass from about 6 feet and they broke at the joint where the nose piece meets the glass. I contacted the manufacturer and was told that the warranty does not cover this as it's not a manufacturing issue. I may be expecting too much from a $200.00 pair of sunglasses, but to break so easily is quite disappointing and for the company to not back their product is bad business. As I said, these are great sunglasses, but don't expect them to last.
