I recently tested this out as my personal item while traveling. It was admittedly a little small for carrying my usual stuff - battery bank, various cables, & wall plug in the small RunOff cube, a synthetic insulated jacket, small medkit, water bottle, Nintendo Switch in a case, etc. The external water bottle pocket helps a lot, and knowing that it's totally waterproof is a huge plus. It makes cleaning it after the trip a total breeze, and I don't have to worry about a bottle leaking due to changes in air pressure (I did however have to "burp" the pack when we got to cruising altitude!). It could benefit from being slightly bigger, but it did fit under a seat no problem. The shoulder straps could also use a little beefing up/padding for comfort, but the bare webbing wasn't as harsh as I expected. Note that besides the external stretch pocket, there is no organization on the inside, so having some extra pouches helps keep it tidy. I managed to fit a 2nd fleece in there, but it was tight and getting other items in and out meant pulling out half the contents to find what I wanted. All that said, the bag is small & easy to maneuver with, and the single zip makes it very simple to get in. I plan to use it more as a daypack, swimmin' hole bag, or attached to a kayak/canoe for certain trips, but it was fun to see how it would handle airport use.
