Easy on and off
This is my third harness and it’s clearly an upgrade from my previous one. However, only incrementally. It’s not much more comfortable and I seem to get more sweaty on the legs due to the big padded leg loops. The leg loops are not adjustable which I find annoying but it does make for a fast transition if I want to go from leading to bouldering. There’s only the single waist adjustment which I like. It cinches up fast and easy and releases smoothly. This helps with getting it out of the bag and on in record time. I just wish the legs could be loosened. My thighs are normal size and they can become a bit tight when belaying or lowering and there's not much you can do. The color is nice and the grey hides chalk well. The hard points in the front for tying in are reinforced and also have a smooth-ish surface to help the rope slide very easily through. I like that feature. The gear loops on the side are supposed to be further forward for easy access to your draws etc., but I feel they are too far forward. But only on the left side. Dunno if this is across all the harnesses or a defect. My grigri and draws tend to hit the front of my thighs a lot and it’s noticeable. I prefer them to hang further back. Nevertheless, This is a solid sport climb harness that I easily fit 12 draws, third hand, ATC, grigri, master point gear and belay gloves on and it stayed up. My other harness tended to loosen under gear weight and sag. Petzl’s did not.
Comfy upgrade from the BD Momentum
When I first started climbing over a year ago, I had purchased the Black Diamond Momentum which was a great starter harness. However, now that I climb more often and spend more time sitting in a harness while projecting climbs, I wanted something with a bit more cushion and comfort. I am a female, but REI was out of the female version of this harness in my size, so I took a gamble and ordered the men's version. Wow is this harness comfy! My only slight complaint is that the leg loops on are the tighter end and not adjustable, but they still fit me alright.
Pretzel’s Hardness
This harness has comfortably and reliably saved me from certain death countless times. This harness is more than a tool; it is my friend.
Super Comfy for all day Climbing!
This harness is excellent! I have had several harnesses over the years including the Petzl Corax and several by Black Diamond. The Sama is by far the most comfortable from the waist to the leg loops and does not tend to ride up anywhere it shouldn't. With a 31" waist, the size M fits me perfect and centers the belay loop nicely. After just a few climbing sessions in the Sama, I can confidently say that it will be my go to harness for the foreseeable future.
Comfortable great all-round harness!
Despite its low price Petzl Sama harness is a very comfortable harness and it fits great. I own Petzl Sitta, Hirundous, older Sama, and BD Bigwall harnesses to compare. This latest Sama has improved from the older orange color Sama I have, especially the leg loops are much more comfortable once they got rid of the tighter elastic 'webs'. I've been using Hirundous a lot for sport climbing but their main webbing inside the hip belt is skinnier and started to feel uncomfortable when I take large whippers. Sama is more comfortable with wider structural webbing and the outside padding. It says "Sport Harness" but I use it for any trad/multi-pitch routes without any problems. The price is awesome at about 1/3 of Sitta price. I only use Sitta for alpine stuff. If you are climbing grade V routes with long hanging belay or aid pitches BD's Bigwall is hard to beat, as a 'free climb-able' big wall harness. I think Sama is a great all-round harness for beginners and experts alike. *Also the main buckle does not slip like Hirundous!
Fantastic Harness
I would recommend the Petzl SAMA for anyone who is looking for a little extra comfort and support when climbing. The wider harness combined with the extra padding of the harness makes it a must-have for any serious climber.
Better than I remembered
This was the first harness I bought 15yrs ago when I started climbing. Loved it then (miss that classic orange), used several different iterations since then. I switched to the BD Solution, which I was initially happy about. However, I think the Sama has a better construction and requires less fussing with on the leg loops. It feels a bit heavier (haven't read the specs), but I'll trade the weight for something that feels sturdier.
Petzl Sama sport harness
I was able to use the harness one quick weekend at Red River Gorge and it was great! True to sizing, the harness was spot on. Very comfortable with minimal adjustments needed. The padded leg loops are very nice. The gear loops are nice and rigid which makes for easy access to your gear. A great harness for the casual climber with more room to grow as your skills improve.
Comfortable
This is my first harness I’ve purchased. I wanted something more comfortable than gym rentals. It is comfortable. I do decently long gym sessions. It’s light enough I don’t notice it on me when I belay. I do wish I could adjust the legs because when I fall I like my legs pretty tight so I don’t feel like I’m slipping (even though I’m not.) This is a feeling I’ll probably just have to get used to with climbing. The sizing is pretty alright for no adjustable legs. It’s a good price. I have only used this for gym purposes. It definitely suits my needs
Super comfy and secure
I’ve been using a black diamond harness for a few years, and am happily going to switch to the Sama. It is super comfortable and easier to adjust than my other harness. The leg loops in particular are nice, as they have elastic instead of adjustable straps. It also rarely tangles, despite the fact that I just throw it in the back of my car in between sessions. Great harness!
