This pack has adequate space. The fitting mechanism is convenient. The side pockets on the belt are almost impossible to access while wearing the pack, have to carry water and small items in another external pouch. I am not using a reservoir. The shoulders could have more padding and perhaps extend wider. Would be nice if vendor offered a 'user's manual's for us beginners to understand the best use of the many straps, buckles, pockets, etc. The how-to video on the Osprey site was rather cursory.
I haven't used this on a long trip but was immediately a bit disappointed in the color. I purchased this online so I didn't get to see it in person. The "black" is more of a green-grey. The backpack itself is a great product but if I'd known how didn't the color would be I'd have made an effort to go in store, or get another color altogether.
I tried a few packs through rentals and one return (thanks REI!) before settling on this one. This pack is comfortable even under a very heavy load (38 pounds) that I carried doing the Pemi Loop in cold weather. I love the way the padding on the hip belt and shoulder straps extends - this helps a ton if you’re on the curvy side, like me. The Osprey Aura was a poor fit for me because it lacked all the customization options. The pack itself is a bit heavy, but to carry so much weight with no discomfort makes that sacrifice worthwhile to me.
It is the best backpack I have ever had. You can adjust the weight of backpack perfectly on your hip and make your shoulder feel no weight. The side pockets and small bags are so handy great for the long journey. I had it for my hiking trip to Patagonia in Chile.
Purchased for an REI women’s backpacking trip; REI staff helped find the right fit, I am training for the trip currently and it has worked great on my practice hikes. I have a smaller Osprey 24L also, and just ordered another Osprey 32L for basic traveling. The brand fits my frame well and is very functional.
I recently picked this pack up as a replacement for a Gregory Z55 that I've had for almost fourteen years. So far I've only had it out on a quick overnight trip, but did awesome on that quick shakedown run. The biggest wins of this pack are the robust frame in it and the versatile fit options. I'm tall, slender and muscular so I picked up a M/L size and have it adjusted to the max and it fits me well. The pack has a fairly narrow and tall profile so its a totally different profile than my old pack (more short and squat), but this allows for great mobility while scrambling along the rocks on the California Coast while trying to not get soaked. The waist belt pocket zippers actually work with one hand which is a welcome change from every other pack I've had. One of my main reasons for going with this pack was due to the robust internal frame, I do a lot of hiking and backpacking down in Big Sur, the Ventana Wilderness and other places in the deserts of SoCal, so sometimes we don't have any water availability on the trail and bringing 1-2 gallons of water is a must. The biggest downsides are the weight of the pack itself, the water bottle pockets are a little hard to use with the pack on and there isn't a ton of gear stash options in terms of other zippered pockets. The panel loading option in the main pack body is an interesting option but I don't see it as being something that will get a lot of use.
Soft padding and comfortable with heavy weight. Not the lightest because of that. The shape is lean and tall . Lots of pockets
I love the way this pack fits my back. I recently took it on a 30 mile trek and it felt great. I had no problem with fitting all my gear in this pack.
This pack exceeded my expectations. I love how adjustable it is. My only complaint is the color. The black one is very clearly gray, not black. I’m still giving 5 stars because I love everything else about it and it’s not that big of a deal. If the color is very important to you, consider checking it out in person or find another photo.
