Good styling for daily use, not as much for water.
This review is specifically for the black frame, black polarized lenses. I used it while camping at the lake, driving around town, going for walks, etc. The clarity is very good and smudges wipe off easily with the included fabric bag or with a sunglass wipe. The description mentioned using it for fishing, but for me, the polarization is not as pronounced as other polarized sunglasses that I have (both higher end and cheap ones in different color lenses… blue, green, black). In most water situations, I’ve found that I prefer the blue lenses as they seem to cut the most glare on water in a creek, at a lake or in the ocean. Until I discovered low bridge fit glasses (my face is kind of flat), I would have considered these a really good fit. For most faces, I think it will have a good fit, but because I have a low bridge on my nose, it sits on my cheeks. I’d consider this style good for hiking, driving, etc, but not for boating. In addition to the less than stellar polarization, it doesn’t block wind as well as other glasses that I have when boating.
Slight disappointment
Bit disappointed with these. I've owned several previous models of sunglasses from SunCloud and this was my least favorite. The arms don't seem to fit naturally with the ears which cause them to be a bit uncomfortable. I also felt like they didn't sit level on my face despite being level. I don't have this issue with any other pair. Overall, I found them to be uncomfortable to wear for more than a short while and not the most flattering on my face. I love all my other pairs of sunglasses from SunCloud so hopefully this is a one off.
Glasses stay put when working up a sweat
These glasses have a snug fit (but not uncomfortable), which combined with the rubber on the nose piece and above the ears keeps these from slipping even while sweating and looking down while cycling. Unlike other polarized glasses I have, I am able to view my phone screen without an issue which is a plus. These are pretty dark, so I wouldn’t recommended for activities where you’ll be switching from light to dark environments frequently. Generally a good pair of glasses, however I’d recommend them for a slimmer face because they sit on my cheeks and lift off my nose bridge when I smile (if you have this issue you’ll know what I mean :) )
Good everyday wear
Been using these as my every day sunglasses for driving, pleasure and work. They have goodplarization and are comfortable. My only complaint is the side pieces are a bit thick and bock peripheral vision
Great for outdoor recreation!
The Sunguard Range Polarized Sunglasses are a welcome addition to outdoor recreation gear. They have a dark enough tint to allow for good vision despite the brightest sun conditions. The curved, wrap around frame is flexible and keeps the glasses on your face during active sports such as cycling, swimming and hiking. The nose piece is soft and comfortable. The vision is clear. The gray tint cools the highlights to create a more even view in bright conditions. The brown tint (not tested) may be better for low contrast conditions (such as when it is raining) to increase contrast and warm up the view.
Great all around, excellent product
These sunglasses are fantastic! I took them on my trip to Canada and they were sturdy enough to survive being tucked in my pack, the lenses had a nice color and polarization to them that made it easy to see when it was super sunny, and they fit my head really well (hard to do as my skull is on the larger side). The arms stayed comfy on my ears all day, and the shape allowed a full range of vision. I took them to Idaho too and they were perfect for seeing fish in the river. Best pair of sunglasses I've had to date.
Nicely done, Suncloud
I have never worn Suncloud sunglasses, but I have known about them for years and figured I'd give them a try. The fit and finish of the sunglasses was good, although not quite as well done as a more premium brand. I would say for what you pay, they are very good. I found them to be lightweight (without feeling cheap) and comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. The only issue I had with the fit was with the thinner frame material of the ends of the temple arms digging into the tops of my ears after wearing for hours at a time. It didn't cut or leave marks, but just became uncomfortable after a while. I found that the non-slip material at the end of the arms was too thin to provide much of a buffer leaving the edge of the temple arms to rub against my skin. Obviously, everyone's head is different and you may not encounter this. On the plus side, the non-slip grip pads held up to hot, sweaty hikes in the sun without the frame slipping from my face. Suncloud did a good job with the optics. I didn't notice any distortion throughout the lens and the polarization provided nice clarity and glare reduction. There was just a little more "pop" to the world. I have not gotten to use them on the water or snow, so cannot comment as to how well they perform in those situations, but I was able to use them hiking and casually, and they performed well. I would not hesitate to recommend them if you're looking for a mid-tier price point sunglass.
Solid pair of glasses for everyday use
I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. To be honest, when I first opened the box for these glasses I was a little underwhelmed - they arrived in a simple glasses bag and didn't appear special upon first review. And even after I first put them on, I thought they were a smidge tight behind my ears and anticipated disappointment. I'm glad I gave them a shot though - after about a week of using them in various capacities (biking, daily general use, chasing after my kids, running to stop the camp bus from leaving), I've grown to like them very much. They do not slip off my head, even when bending over to do things (pull something out of my dogs mouth, etc). They provide excellent sun protection from my estimation (wrapping around my temples). They are light and comfortable to wear (I got used to the initial tightness behind my ears). They have a bit of flexibility, which also gives me comfort that they won't crack at the slightest bit of pressure. All in all, a solid pair of glasses for daily use.
Best Bang For The Buck
After losing my last pair of fishing glasses I tried these and was quite surprised how light they were on my head and ears. The lenses were crystal clear, just the right amount of tint even on a bright sunny day of Atlantic Shad fishing trip along the Potomac River in Washington, DC. They hit the low light of clouds and the full sun just right. For the price you would be hard pressed to find another pair of polarized glasses. I would definitely recommend these. Added bonus is that Smith optics makes this brand so you are getting a company that knows how to manufacture great shades.
