Used for Car Camping
Purchased this with the intent of using it for winter camping where the temperatures got to about 25F overnight. I have to keep a couple windows cracked when car camping to prevent condensation, and the quilt kept me toasty despite the cold air in the car. I typically sleep with minimal layers and didn't have any complaints, and I like that I can turn it into a sleeping bag for extra warmth around my feet.
Thanks for reviewing the Arctos 20° trail quilt! We're grateful to know it kept you warm while car camping. Enjoy the adventures ahead!
It passed the cold weather test
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Arctic is a must have for winter hammock Camping, my bf and I slept like two warm babies with this as a under quilt in 18-30F temperatures. For 4 days in the ozark mountains, plus a night of snow fall. It’s very light weight and super soft and was shipped fast just in time for our trip to test it to its limits. I 100% recommend this product for your gear if you are going to be outside in the cold.
Warm and Fun to Use
I've taken this on a few trips and its kept me warm and toasty every time. ive taken it down to -3c and its worked well, that being said it was paired with a sea to summit extreme reactor liner. While this quilt is very warm and light, It is important to remember that your sleep system is not just a sleeping bag/quilt. Ive used this quilt with a below par sleeping pad, and ive used it with a 4.4r value pad and it definitely lives up to its rating with the correct pad. I bought this quilt for the poncho mode and the lifetime guarantee and so far Im very happy with it. I only wish that it came with a roll top stuff sack instead of a drawstring stuff sack.
Not enough down filling so I returned this.
When I received this I did as instructed and layed it out flat for a few days so the down could loft. After 3 days the down had definitely fluffed up but I could still see many areas where there was no down and I could see through the material to the other side. After 2 weeks of laying flat it still had a lot of bare spots so I decided to return it. I am always cold and I did not think 2 layers of thin nylon material with no down fill in many areas would keep me warm. I was really looking forward to this quilt. Because of the multiple ways to use it and from all the great reviews I thought it would be perfect for me. Unfortunately I maybe just got a defective one.
Toasty Warm!
Bought this to go with my Mantis and while the clips on the Arctos don’t 100% line up with the clips on the Mantis, it still works great. Went camping and it got down to 25F and I was VERY warm. I also had a few layers on myself, but I could have shed 1 layer and still been fine. I used the Arctos as an under quilt and my mountain blanket as a top quilt. Very happy and looking forward to my next adventure.
Hey John, we're thrilled to hear the Arctos kept you toasty while camping it the cold weather! We're just about to publish a how-to video for underquilt mode that should help you out with aligning the snaps with the gear loops. Reach out if you have any questions!
Good but....
For a Roo I would possibly rate higher. I bought this for a Mantis. I was unaware the the snaps do not align with the snaps with the Mantis. The good was that I used it as an under quilt and the Bobcat 45 as my top quilt in temperatures below freezing and heavy winds. Keep me comfortable. The only cold spots was when the wind changed direction. Would buy again.
My favorite quilt
This is the quilt that I've used on all of my treks since moving to Canada in 2021. Every night so far has been more mile than I anticipated, so I have yet to need to close it up. I've been using it with an Outdoor Research Stargazer bivy, usually for bugs, sometimes for rain. The Arctos packs nice and small, and it's quite light for its warmth, but unlike my dedicated winter tarp, it can open up flat to make it usable on warmer nights as well as on cooler nights. The poncho feature is a plus, as it adds nearly no weight and it makes wearing the quilt an option, though I haven't had a cold enough evening to warrant trying it out. The head opening also works as a vent to let out heat when necessary.
From Someone Who Is Always Cold
I am starry eyed. This underquilt is amazing. It's very lightweight and yet astonishingly warm. When I unpacked it for the first time I tried out the poncho mode and was delighted. You can feel the warmth starting to accumulate immediately. I've never experienced something like that and usually am always cold. We have kept this out for the couch and it's operating as an overpowered throw blanket on steroids right now but I have no doubt it'll serve its purpose on the hammock when the time comes. This is well worth the price. It won't let you down!
Thank you for reviewing the Arctos trail quilt! We're grateful to know that it's keeping you warm at home and on the trail. Enjoy the time outside, while staying warm, ahead!
Snug As A Bug
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Okay, so I was a bit skeptical about the Arctos at first. It has honestly blown me away! It's super warm, lofts quickly, and packs down very small (with help from a compression bag) without losing warmth. Just let it out to breathe for a half hour before you need it and you'll be good to go. The sleeping bag end doesn't have a draft, and the feet and shoulder cinch cords make quick work of sizing. For an extra sleeping bag feel, clip the top of the bag together and stick your head through it - instant mummy bag! It's roomy and amazing.
Wow
Wow team Kammock. You have knocked the ball out of the park on this one. Zipped foot box goes to just above your thighs. Little tab to help the foot box. Zip is of great quality and looks like it won’t snap. Smaller diameter pull cords. Tapered design to act as under quilt. Small hole so that poncho mode is keeping you warm. Just wow. I cannot at time of this review testify to its warms for to current local Covid restrictions but will try to get a hang in under quilt mode to confirm warmth range.
Hi Alex, thank you for your review of the Arctos Trail Quilt! We cannot wait for you to take it outside on the adventures ahead!
