I took this chair to the field when we last went on a two week FTX, and I had some high expectations due to it being so compactable and small. However, setup proved to be the most difficult, as the chair itself was fairly difficult to get the cloth part over all four of the prongs at once. Once I managed to do so, one of the prongs snapped after 2 days of use. It still kind of worked, but it wasn't all that comfortable, so I used it as a nice cot-side table. Overall, I'm disappointed, but I've used other kinds of Klymit products before, and THOSE have held up great and been of excellent use to me. I guess this chair just wasn't quite the right fit.
Update as of May 2025: This chair is going strong. It's my go-to for any event. It's super light and small enough to easily take to my kids sporting events. I can set up anywhere and be way more comfortable than the bleachers. This thing is super lightweight and easy to take apart and set up. shows away small and will be great for backpacking. I took it to Alaska for a car packing trip and it served me very well after fishing long hours. I weigh in at 210 and didn't have any concerns about it's stability.
I am a huge Klymit fan and this is the first product of theirs I don't love. I am training for an extended backpacking trip in 2025. I have never carried a chair for backpacking before, but thought it was time as my knees are getting old. The chair just didn't fit me. I am 6' and about 200 pounds. The poles on the back of the chair dug into my should blades. It also only allows for you to sit in a reclined position. This is great until you want to eat or just get tired of leaning back. I will say it does have a couple of cons: 1) Can't beat the price. Other chairs in this market are twice the cost. 2) It is sturdy. I never felt like the chair was going to fall apart.
I've so far only assembled this just to check it out, but have yet to take it on a trip. The item is nice and light and packs up well. I feel comfortable enough in it that I could probably take a nap sitting in it. My biggest complaint is that it is near impossible to stretch the seat to fit on the poles - the tolerances are tight, and it took me probably 25 minutes of straining and cursing to finally have the seat fit onto the poles. Maybe it will get looser over time, but for now I'm leaving it assembled and sitting in it occasionally to try and stretch it out. I have yet to try and disassemble it.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I needed a lightweight chair that was portable to improve my experience outdoors. After 2 very disappointing and unsafe incidents with a Big Agnes and Helinox chair frame breaking I felt that there was a balance between low weight and strong. This chair has met my needs for over a year being small and packable and not unexpectedly failing and subsequently sending you to meet local rocks with your head.
Klymit is making outdoor gear great (and affordable) again. These are a perfect travel size, the orange color looks great, super easy to assemble. Good stability in grass/dirt/solid surface. Every once in a while the plastic stopper on the bottom will pop off when assembling, but it fits right back in. No hassle and insanely cheaper than competitors. I bought two and love to support a Utah company who is doing great things. Won't regret this buy. Update over a year later: took this on a beach trip, sat a little goofy in the sand and the poles broke. Quite a bummer. Originally 5 stars, lowered. I'm only 170 lbs, so should be able to withstand a little lean back, but it is just how it goes sometimes.
Little heavy and bulky for pack-packing. However, with the weight comes sturdiness and comfort my father had a more expensive lighter made for packing chair and his aluminum poles were bending/flexing when he sat in it. He was not able to really lean back or recline at all. This chair with me ( we are same weight @ 195) didn't budge and I was able to achieve more comfort in reclining and shifting my position easily without the thing feeling like it was about to snap. Good with the bad. Sturdy means weight I get it. Depends on if it's worth the weight for your trip! It was for me!
I bought this for use with our truck camper and not necessarily for backpacking though I would still use it for backpacking. It takes up little space which is great when camping with two kiddos. It breaks down nicely and fits between our camper and truck cab. I recommend setting it up at home first but once you figure it out it is pretty easy. It's comfy but some may think it's a little narrow. I'm 6'1" and 160ish lbs with a 32" waist and I have no issues and nor does my wife who's hips are a little wider than mine. If you have a hard time getting in and out of a deepish squat it may be a little tough getting in and out of. Great chair but the version with the high back is a touch more comfy but also a little heavier.
I'd like to give this a good review as it is very comfortable and compact but after spending a week on the Snake River through Hells Canyon the chair started falling apart on the first day of use. In cobble the rubber stoppers on the end of the legs fell off and disappeared into the gravel. I had to use crushed cans and find flat rocks at every campsite thereafter. Very annoying. In sandy ground it was not much better. Upon lifting up the chair, having already sat in it, the legs would get pulled out of their sockets and without knowing I would go to sit back down and I would fall all the way to the ground. I'll most likely go back to a traditional camp chair. Such a bummer as I had clients and they all saw my frustrations. I do like the pocket on the side.
I needed a chair that would fit on a checked bag without being too large at a decent price point. This chair fulfilled all of my expectations. It's easy to put together, packs small, and isn't very heavy. I used this as a camp chair. It was quick to assemble, stayed sitting up when left alone, and just the comfort I needed while sitting at camp. It doesn't provide head support so understand what you're getting into. I'm 6 foot 2 and 205 lbs and felt well supported and didn't feel like it couldn't handle me. Def a solid buy.
