Nice Weekend Cooler

This is a great weekend trip cooler for when you want to pack a few cold items, but do not want a bulky hardshell cooler. This would even be nice for long day trips when you want to keep cold drinks in your car. Nice size and easy to carry. I like the pockets and adjustable shoulder strap.

Versatile Day Trip Cooler

This versatile cooler is ready for road trip adventures and closer-to-home youth sports season! It is very common for me to pack snacks and meals on the go as we trek from one kid's game to another, and this cooler was a success. I appreciated the front and lid pockets, so there is a dry and separate space for items. While I wouldn't have minded side pockets that expand enough for water bottles, I recognize the cooler would grow bulkier with that inclusion. The zipper is easy enough for my youngest child to open without help (a problem with a similar-sized cooler we have used previously). The cooler maintains a structured shape without being too rigid but cannot be squeezed much, for example, to fit in a tight space behind a seat. I appreciate that the lid portion is firm enough to use as a small table or place water bottles on it without tipping over; it supported the youngest child's weight (40 lbs) as a seat at one point. And because kids are helping themselves in the cooler and sometimes spilling, I loved the ability to remove the entire interior for cleaning. One change I would make is a brighter color option. I look forward to using this cooler for a long time in our adventures!

Sturdy cooler with multi-use potential

The REI Trailgate cooler has been a good replacement for our previous single night car camping cooler. We like the storage capacity, but found the overall size to be a little clunky as the walls are quite thick. We have also been using it when traveling (day trips) with our baby as a milk cooler. As long as we stick a few ice packs in about an hour before leaving it’s kept everything chill. If you’re looking for a midsized structured but not hard sided cooler, I’d go for it.

Great day cooler with easy zipper

I was excited to compare this cooler to the Rtic 20L soft cooler that I've had for a few years. My main complaint about the Rtic is that the zipper is such a pain and it's split a few times. This REI version has a super easy to use (one handed! two zippers!) opening that can be easily.opened with just one finger, reaching around a seat or in the back of the truck. I tried precooling the whole insert in the freezer and can't say if it made a difference or not. But the removeable insulation is super convenient for cleaning. The front pocket is perfect for some utensils, napkins, and the like. Ice kept pretty well in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions ranging from 30s to 70s, although I haven't had the opportunity to test it in super hot sunshine. The major con is that the zipper is not waterproof. I spend a lot of time on the river and need a good day cooler ... I will choose something else if I'm concerned about submersion because water would get in and ruin any food. I love a good Tetris packing game and the structure of this cooler is rigid enough for stacking yet flexible enough to pack odd shapes or slip in one more beer.

Ideal for 2-3 Days

I’ve used this cooler several times including a 3 day/2night trip to the Channel Islands and it was perfect. Top flap can also accommodate small bag of ice. Cover designed well to cover the top portion of insert completely. Thoughtful bottle opener included and tethered to bag. Recos: 1) Take insert out and place in freezer to cool it down prior to trip. 2) Buy a few packs of Yeti ice and pack ice in ziploc bags. Eggs and meat stayed cold for 3 days. 3). Air is your enemy inside cooler so pack it well.

Love it

Needed a cooler for drinks and snacks for long drives and weekend camping trips. Have found myself using this for all sorts of things including tossing any frozen or refrigerated food from grocery store. This thing does a great job (as with all coolers it works way better if you pre chill it) and is easy to open and close and carry.
